100 arrested in child porn bust

WASHINGTON, Aug. 8 ? One hundred people have been arrested as a result of an undercover investigation into the largest known commercial child pornography business ever uncovered, federal officials said Wednesday. Having already prosecuted a Texas couple for operating the porn Web site, authorities now are targeting customers and pursuing overseas operators who provided illegal photographs and videos, and many more arrests are anticipated, Attorney General John Ash***** said.

I read this also the same article I am so happy that this Child Porn crap is being cracked down on.

I hope the site operators rot in jail forever, they better not let them fucks out in 10 years.

This is how stupid they are

250,000 totally transactions 1.4 million a month in sales for years already.

HELLO? did they think they wont ever get caught? Dumb asses should be shot instead of put in jail, they are probably Filthy fucking rich but they continue to push Child Porn.

Heard child as young as 4 years old was used.

    Sick sick sick

HE actually got 1,000 years. In the federal system - you get almost no good time, well put it this way - he won't get more than 25% off so 750 years is a long time - his wife got 14 years - she will do at least 12.

I believe 7 years is the average time spent in jail for murder, but I am not sure...

The sad part about this, in addition to the children whose innocence were stolen from them, is that this will be used by rightwingers as justification for harassing "teen" sites.

One lesson to be learned from this (and before I go on, I'm glad that these CP'ers got the book thrown at them) is that setting up servers outside the US is no shelter. I've heard a few webmasters talk about seeking shelter by setting up their servers in The Netherlands or even further afield. Unless you move along with the servers, you have no shelter, and even then, you want to pick a place where extradition is not allowed or is prohibitively difficult. Some countries will not extradite someone to another country if the "crime" isn't a crime in that country.

I, too, am troubled at the thought that up the road the "legal teen" type of site may be in peril. And not because I make lots of young woman (18-26) content, but because in order to do so, they'll try to prosecute webmasters under extremely nebulous concepts.

For example, does a model look like she might be underage (even if she's 20)?

Recently, a pedophile was thrown back in jail for violating his parole. He was to have no child pornography around. The child pornography they found was his diary. In other words, it was something he wrote for himself, not for distribution or publication. We are at the point where prosecutors want to be able to prosecute people for their thoughts, not just their actions. That is an extremely dangerous variation from past legal concepts.

For one thing, a person might keep a diary of his thoughts for showing to his psychiatrist. He might use such a diary as an outlet for sick impulses. We should not put people in jail for things they wrote for themselves alone, no matter how repulsive the content.

What is next, can you be put in jail for something you admitted you dreamed?

Unseen is 100% correct. Just remember before you jump for joy on this - that the guy got over 100 times the sentence what most murderers spend in prison.

The federal system is unforgiving. People do not understand this. They base sentences off amounts of products & money in this thing called the federal sentencing guidlines. It is very dangerous - becuase the gov't can get you for a technicality.

Many people could already easily be charged with violating federal law with the promotion of the porn sites. You ever say a girl is on a site who isn't - or stuff like that? The FTC can go after you for deceptive trade practices. Then they charge you with conspiracy along with the adult company. Then you go to jail based off the amount of money produced in total. And trust me - it will be decades before you get out.

I am not saying they will do this, but the feds have been given way to many powers. Here is one example - true story:

Delivery Driver is told take a package to a clinic - his boss makes a joke about not getting high on the stuff. Guy is curious and pulls over and opens the package - it is methadone. He takes a small swig. Now according to my attorney - (who represented this guy) methedone is very potent in its concentrated form. He passes out. The police find him in his truck on the side of the road with the methadone. They arrest him.

Well how do the guidelines work - well in this case they converted it into what they considered an equal amount of heroin. It was so much that the gov't dropped the charges "in the interests of justice" because he would have been at the kingpin level and spent the rest of his life in jail.

There was a late night TV real estate person that recently got royally screwed too. So before you get to happy - these are the same types of thing they may someday use to come after you.

Note, I don't think this will happen, but it could....

Yeah they had a mini show on this tonight on the local news here.

They should go after the CC company, because if they would not process the transaction that would atleast help slow down the transfer of this sick crap. It would not stop it but it would help. They are kinda like Contributing to the crime by allowing the deal to be made...
                    Just my 2 cents.

Yeah you have to watch what you write -- it's scary... The feds confiscate writings in one way or another -- psychedelics, medicine, history, encryption...

                        Look out kids,
                        they keep it all hid,
                        12 years of school
and ya' end up on the day shift.

"When authorities descended on Landslide and arrested the Reedys, they found that the company, which also sold legal adult content, had between 250,000 and 300,000 subscribers around the world."

Wow that's a lot of subscribers...

I wonder where all the money is? If they were smart enough to have people in Indonesia that were protected by the laws of that country -- seems to me they wouldn't be stupid enough to be hanging out in the Bible belt -- Texas -- where the radio stations complain that all the music awards go to sinners.

Anyway this makes A*s*h*c*r*o*f*t look really good... It's very possible that the Reedys sold child porn with the *intention* of getting caught. Tap your temple twice with your index finger and think about that one ;)

                          Newsletter
                          August 2001

A couple in Texas has proved to the world
that the saying about letting the buyer beware is truer than ever
today. After the Reedy?s were sentenced on Monday, the news came out
that authorities were using the couple?s business, Landslide Inc., as
the basis of their sting operation to discover and criminally pursue
purchasers of child pornography. In this unprecedented action,
Landslide Inc. was kept up and running after the Reedy?s arrest so the
State Attorney?s office could track usage and send e-mails to members
seeking sales of additional illegal child pornography purchases.
Landslide?s credit verification service has provided law enforcement
with an important tool to pursue charges not only against the
webmasters involved with the Reedy?s abroad but also to reach into the
homes of users and prosecute them as well.
                          Beginning with President
Clinton?s administration, a focus was placed on protecting minors from
the harms child pornography may cause. From statutes dealing with
material that is harmful to minors to cases dealing with the evolution
of the child pornography industry, Washington seems to have focused
like a laser beam on this industry. Now, with the new administration,
Bush and his Attorney General, John Ash*****, have taken an equally
strong stand against child pornography. His administration wants to
reduce and eventually eliminate this industry in order to protect
children from sexual exploitation and emotional harm.
                          Landslide was
the perfect vehicle to help to reach these goals particularly because
the company made the bulk of its over one million dollars through child
pornography. Not only did the sites they ran credit verifications
contain child pornography, but they were dealing with explicit,
hard-core content featuring minors. This content drew the government?s
attention and their response reached well beyond Landslide. The
government is also pursuing the webmasters who ran Landslide?s links
and has now reached into the homes of users and has begun pursuing
                          individual subscribers.
In the United States, child pornography
receives no right to privacy or First Amendment protection. Therefore,
not only can producers, distributors, retailers, and webmasters be
prosecuted, but officers may also pursue individuals who buy
pornographic materials featuring minors. Under federal law, ordering
child pornography is a felony because the government views purchasers
to be just as guilty of exploiting children as those who make the
                          material.
On the other hand, pornography featuring adults is handled
differently than the same material featuring minors. Typically, if
adult pornography has inappropriate content, prosecutions are limited
to producers, distributors, retailers and webmasters alone unless the
material is obscene. Neither the First Amendment nor the right to
privacy will protect material that is obscene. However, if the
material is not obscene and does not contain minors under the age of
eighteen, there is a legal right to privacy to possess it within the
                          user or consumer?s home.
In addition to convicting the owner?s of
Landslide and pursuing related webmasters and consumers, another issue
has arisen in the past year that deals with child pornography. Circuit
courts are split as to whether computer-created children qualify for
regulation and prosecution as child pornography. The current standard
is that, if the image or person in the photograph or film resembles a
minor, the material will not be protected and anyone, from the producer
to the consumer, may be charged.
So, as I said before, let the buyer
beware when it comes to pornography involving underage models or
simulations that resemble minors. The government has highlighted this
Texas couple and has brought this issue to the forefront in an effort
to decrease the production and consumption of child pornography in this
country. These recent occurrences appear to be another step in the
Bush administration?s goal to stomp out child pornography.

                          --

                          Thank you.
