Good camera for shooting content?

Is by far, the best digital camera on the market, for your money.

I'm a die hard Nikon user, but the Nikon I want is a bit out of my price range

one camera I would really NOT recommend is the kodac DC290 , I used that for a few shoots before I realized it SUX!!

Well, what do you expect for quality ? A high price tag.

Wouldn't it be better to take normal pics and digitally scan em ? I mean, a photographer usually has a good camera anyways... and a scanner is probably cheaper than a new digicam...

My g/f uses a Fuji MX2900 for amateur teen pics. The results are very good. We trade content with another person making his own stuff, it works well if you make sure the required legals are in place.

We use a Nikon 990 for stills and a Canon GL1 for video -- both very nice quality for the price.

just bought a nikon 880 great picture quality, I own 2 nikon pro kits and thought it would be a good idea to just buy a nikon digital body and use all the lenses I currently have but as Redshoe said above it is like $6000 for the body...ouch the 880 came to $600 on sale including tax

The nikon coolpix 990 is the bomb.. The gl1 rocks for video..The xl1 is overkill

A nice camera but $6000 is just a little much... =)

I've had my eye on a Nikon D1X, just a bit expensive...

Anyone that have used the Fuji FinePix 4900?

yep, coolpix does a great job from what I've seen on some websites using that camera...

I've had decent results with an Olympus D-490 as well. Not as pricy as the others and has a nice optical zoom too.

If you can afford the big ticket Nikon, that's prolly the best on the market today.

Keep in mind that you're going to be showing these on the web at what 600x400? 72 DPI jpg?
Some of those realy high-end cameras are amazing for prints, especially in larger formats, but keep in mind the medium here and you probably don't need anything close to that.

More important is the lighting, as someone up there pointed out. Try to get some fill-in so you don't have glaring shadows. Nice even lighting goes a long way towards eliminating red-eye and nasty shadows and will probably pay off faster than the multi-megabuck camera without the lights.
