i know people that used to attend that club. now they are club owners, restauranteurs, etc etc. from what they tell me, none of that stuff happens in the regular nightclub, all that shit is happening in steve rubells personal vip area. i'd be willing to bet that there was more cocaine intake in that club than any other establishment to date. one of my djs in san diego used to be the headlining dj at the roxbury on sunset which is now called Miyagis. (its now a sushi joint). going inside you can feel the clubbing that used to go on there. he says in that day and age, you could walk into trendy l.a. and hollywood clubs and find piles of coke on the table and stuff. that guy steve died a horrible painful prolonged death and ultimately passed in a manhatten hospital. all that fun that it appeared to be did not come without a price. i read a book on this club empire about 5 years ago. what they went through to keep that club open and operating was ridiculous. so corrupt. do a google search for it or steve rubell and you will be amazed at some of the problems that they had and dealt with. many of the owners went to prison, there were murders within the ranks of the management. all sorts of crazy shit. i believe mike hawk may have gone to the studio a few times in his big club promoter days.Comment

actually in the basement is where all the heavy drugs and sex were done. the club did have the nudity and some sex and drugs going on throughout though but not as rampant as the basement..
the owners Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager were smart, gay and real scumbag rats who named ex-partners and competitors to get themselves out of jail.
rubell died of aids
rubell was a fucking nut who said if he wasnt an owner he wouldnt let himself in 54, was a real loose cannon who's own big mouth brought his, schragers and the clubs demise.
Rubell was quoted as saying that only the Mafia made more money than the club brought in - The club grossed an estimated 7 million after its first yr.
2 yrs after opneing federal agents raided the club. Schrager was arrested for possession of cocaine. both were charged with tax evasion, obstruction of justice and conspiracy.
Roy Cohn (another fucking nut) defend them and Rubell and Schrager were each sentenced to 3 ½ years in federal prison and fined $20,000 each for tax evasion.
they got out in 2 yrs after ratting on ex-partners and competitors for the same shit they did.Last edited by jonesy; 03-23-2006, 01:36 PM..

Studio 54 in 1977
Before you got down, you had to get in.
One night at studio 54, a woman, thinking she?d hit upon a foolproof strategy for getting in, rented a horse and arrived Lady Godiva?style. The doormen, sizing up the situation, made a Solomonic decision?the horse was in; the lady would have to wait outside. In or out: For the couple of years of Studio 54?s reign, there was no in-between (except for one man who got stuck in an air duct trying to sneak in and died there, in full black tie). New York City was on the edge of bankruptcy, but at Brooklyn kids Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager?s Studio 54, that was a mere detail. On any given night, you could see Baryshnikov, Bill Buckley, Betty Ford, King Juan Carlos of Spain, Mick Jagger, David Rockefeller, and (of course) Andy Warhol. In the warren of low-ceilinged rooms downstairs was the inner sanctum, with coke by the yard, a place where you could meet anyone doing just about anything. When the FBI raided, they found Hefty bags stuffed with cash and a pathetically minuscule amount of coke?and Rubell and Schrager found they were out of celebrity friends.
