I am looking to buy a TV - Prefer HDTV - Flat Panel - Thought? Suggestions?

I want to buy a Flat Panel HDTV. Anyone had any luck getting one they liked?

I've heard Plasma are great except for if you leave it on for a day with an unmoving image, it can burn itself in...

LCD has a shitty viewing angle problem...

Anyone have an opinion?

I can highly recommend PHILIPS 37PF9830 (or the 42 version). The angle view is very good, the response time is very short. Colors are amazing when you use HDMI. So is the contrast.
And most important; its the only TV right now that can handle REAL high definition. All other TVs do not support the 1920 x 1080 pixels, which is required if you want the best out of the blu-ray player, the format is coming probably this year. So the "HD ready" thing is just bullshit, thats why the prices are low now... they want to get rid of their production. What they are talking about is HD for broadcasting, but thats far from the 1920 x 1080.

Price is a little stiff tough. It all depends on what you can/want to pay. II bought it because I could not wait.. lol.. Otherwise wait 6-7 months for other competing models.

I have a Panasonic 42' HDTV that I paid around $3,000 for this past June and I love it. Make sure what ever you get that is excepts 'hdmi' cables. I recently bought a Sony LCD from here: (for someone else)

They absolutely ROCK!

Plus be very careful of plasma, try and get the largest LCD you can afford.

Plasma 'burn in' can happen with 25 minutes and with TIVO's and stuff like that stuff gets paused all the time.

Have fun shopping though...its always good to buy prezzies for yourself! It makes gallery building seem so worthwhile!!!! LOL

Hmm... I have heard nothing but good things about this TV... I guess 3M came up with some shit that makes this TV extremely bright compared to the competition. Wondering if it has the connectors someone mentioned previously...

Can someone tell me if 42" is enough? To be honest, this will be the first time I have ever purchased a TV before so I literally have no idea. I usually just work, work, work and then go out to watch the Lakers... Since I am going to have a nice sized house I figured I'd bring the Laker parties home and watch them on my TV... But I have no idea just how big a decent TV should be...

I guess that'd be a bit bigger than twice my 20" dell monitor....?

Good question, I went thru the same thing. The 42" I bought was replacing the 55" big screen TV I had. I was looking at the same model Panasonic in 50" and it was close to 5k. To me, that's alot of money for a TV. If i was going bigger than 42" I would probably go DLP.

I know, probably doesn't answer your question...

i bought it a 3 years ago for 5k.

it is lcd read projection.

i cannot complain.

the hoth scenes in empire strikes back are fucking awesome.

I just bought one of the Samsung HLR4667W 46" Widescreen HDTV DLP TV and I love it. Paid about $1600 for it. It replaced my 7 year old 53 inch Toshiba and even though it's technically smaller, it looks bigger because it's wide screen.

The HD channels are amazing. I find myself watching Discovery HD just because of the picture :-)

I thought the Fujitsu was the nicest plasma I've ever seen...but I don't watch enough television to justify the expense..so we went to Costco and bought a 50 inch Visio, which has a six month return policy. So far, it's worked out well for our purposes.....

I am kind of in a turmoil mode tight now...

Each month I make more and more money and could totally afford this TV... But my money is growing faster than my ability to realize just how much I make. So $3000 on a TV sounds like it is crazy talk... But I could have afforded this TV a year ago and I make more than twice that now... So how do I just go out and buy the fucking thing?

I was considering getting that but I talked to my buddy that installs tv's for a living and he told me Toshiba should not be allowed to make tv's.

Well, that's certainly a choice you have to make. Do you watch a lot of television or do you just want the coolest one that's manufacturered?

Here's something to consider..just because you can afford the television or ten televisions, with the way technology is going, they will be outdated in a year or so.....if you have the money and want real quality, check out the Fujitsu....I've always been a Sony lover and this one beats it by a mile.

My big screen Toshiba was great - for 4 years. The converter or somethnig just went out on it again for the 2nd time in a year. Now I have the "White Trash TV Set Up": the working TV in front of the big TV

Right... I watch mostly TIVO'd shit... Cop dramas and some sports. So perhaps I should set a limit at $2400 since I don't really give a shit about DVD's and home theater shit...
