Are certain forms of Hentai illegal in the UK?

Are hentai parodies of Sailor moon or other teen series illegal in the UK even though they are completely drawn and do not involve photos of actual people? Someone emailed recently insisting that this is true... it sounds ridiculous--these are cartoons...not even CGI but drawings.

The US standard for simulated images which governs cartoons [although cartoons are rather obviously exempted from the law...but you never know how zealous prosecutors could get] is http://www.freedomforum.org/template...cumentID=16075

Since Sailor Moon is a trademarked character, I would stay away from them much like I would the Simpsons, Disney, X-Men, etc. Look-alike characters are a different matter.

Actually, PARODIES are legal under the "Fair Use" exemption of the US Copyright act, even sexual parodies. My question re this thread is whether Japanese Hentai is illegal in the UK

No, I don't dabble in the stuff you described, I just find it EXTREMELY DISTURBING that hand drawn / non-photo morphed cartoons would be illegal. Next step.... let's ban THOUGHTS, as well....cuz you never know.

agreed... banning *drawings* that are deemed obscene by some bible-thumpers standards is ridiculous, and sets a dangerous precedent at many different slants..
