Yet a small American state like Georgia, with less than half the population of my country, has over three times the amount of yearly murders of my country. All the while my country is actually one of the most densely populated countries in the world (for comparison: it has about 7 times the population density of Georgia, 3 times that of Florida, 3 times that of New York, etc).

I have no reason to claim my country is better. In most respects, America clearly leads the way. Wealth, technology, entertainment, business... America is definitely on top concerning all those things.

What I am pointing out is the effectiveness of tight gun laws, which many people wrongfully reject, by providing an example of their effects in an actual country.

Hell yes its a good idea. Everyone has an unfettered right to defend what is theirs without worrying that the family of the "victium" will sue.

Thats why I always liked the roadhouses in Arkansas - at least they had the little slots behind the front desk to check in your guns before you headed into the bar - at least inside you were on level ground with just pool sticks and bar stools

It's not the people that are rightfully stopped from doing something terrible - which is the point of the law - it's the rest of the wannabe Rambos out there that may decide that *any* altercation deserves a few rounds from his .45.

America already has far too many guns and gun-related deaths and the reality of a law like this is that the intentions may be good, but in the end this almost sure to backfire.

Where I live it's pretty much assumed everyone has a gun. I've been here 5 years and have never heard of a gun murder or armed robbery.

I can guarantee you that a "jury of your peers" here in the hills would never convict someone for using a gun for self defense - state law or not ;)

you keep acting as if the difference between crime and no crime is legislation and that culture and a myriad of other factors play no role whatsoever. you live in a country smaller than my last bowel movement and want to draw conclusions between the two based on gun laws?

You are making yourself look silly - read the law and you'll understand. I don't think anywhere in America it says that you cannot defend yourself. If I'm wrong, please point it out! What the new law says is that you can *kill* someone and not get charged or sued IF the assailant is, essentially, doing something really bad and threatening.

In this case, mr. victim obviously did not stop and think "oh wait, i better not defend myself in case I get arrested". Nobody does. That's reality. People who are threatened typically do whatever they can do defend themselves, the law be damned. So don't bring up irrelevant examples like this and suggest that somehow this new law would have saved this - or almost any other - victim.

No, the only thing mr. victim did is get his bones in his arms and hands shattered trying to protect his head. lets assume he had a gun, he'd be alive and in jail. In jail because the law in this state says he had to run unless cornered. Problem is, had he followed the law he would have learned that the guy was a fuckload faster then him, and clubbed him in the back of the head as he was running away, which is exactly what happened.

So his options would have been, die or goto jail for 30 years. Nice fucking choice huh?

Why do ppl assume that anyone can carry a gun. This law, allows those who rightfully, legally own guns, in their own homes to shoot first, and stand their ground.

As for being able to defend yourself in public, outside in a parking lot, wherever, if you do not have a concealed weapons permit, than you are a criminal, breaking the law.

So your argument, any tom, dick, or harry can go out rambo in public is false and wrong. Maybe you should bone up on the subject matter, before going into a debate about it.

Since Florida enacted this law, there has been one time it has been challenged. A car reposser shot and killed the owner of a car he was attempting to repossess when the owner tried to run him over.

You are mistaken. That is the old law. These new laws go beyond that and now allow armed citizens to do the same in public.
