Every US Embassy has a small group of US Marines for protection, but this is really a small force and cannot handle hundreds of protestors. I'm sure they can bring a massive amount of firepower up to deal with situations quickly, but slaughtering innocent people isn't their primary purpose there.
Say what you want about US Marines, but they are highly disciplined and can show huge amounts of restraint when needed.....
