I got my first bb gun at 8....fired my first .22 at 10. Didn't fire a higher caliber weapon until at least my teens.
Of course all of my guns came with a very long/months long training courses.
Its good to teach children about guns from a young age. Teach them to respect them as tools, not toys. Just like the oven, don't touch it.
But thats fucking ridiculous that parent should be ashamed. If a shell had exploded in the chamber, the smallest piece of shrapnel could have penetrated (his still soft) skull.
