I'm a winner! I'm a winner! I feel like Steve Martin in the Jerk discovering that he's somebody after discovering his appearance in the phone book for the first time.
I'm honored to share the recognition with 12Clicks - he's a formidable fashion competitor. I imagine that takes a LOT of effort to shop and dress like you're in an assisted living community and retired to Florida when really you live in Pennsylvannia. He has my admiration for being online for so long that when he started his business domain registrations were free. Perhaps next year 12Clicks can inspire the BroMaster to include a Blingiest Bro Watch category and duke it out with Cadwell?
...ok, seriously though...
12Clicks is a great friend of mine and there's nobody else that I'd be happier to share the award with. I think that the BroMaster is brilliant, whoever it is and I don't really care to know because for me that would be like discovering that Santa Claus isn't real all over again and it was so much a heart-breaker the first time around.
I think that the BroMaster blog is a smart and witty parody of our industry and mixed in with all of the 'fun' is some excellent insight into the good, bad and ugly of our business. I was completely dissapointed that the awards didn't take place. In addition to our XBiz nomination, the BroMaster Awards was another great reason to attend just a few weeks after Vegas (which tires us all out so much). I thought this was a unique opportunity to make fun of ourselves and share it with one another in the grand venue that XBiz and DMoney provided.
I feel like we're in a world where all things are possible and the truth is usually stranger than fiction. The official story is otherwise, but I really couldn't help but wonder if it was XBiz that didn't allow the BroMasters to take place. I was honored to be nominated for an XBiz award for the third year running and frankly I enjoy their publications and venues - they're all favorites, for real. It seems to me they ran the party very well and if they were supportive it would have taken place but I understand entertainment on such a mass scale must be complex.
I guess I would suggest that since XBiz has come to market with some cutting edge Venues (Vegas, Hollywood) that if the opportunity presents itself in the future they should embrace the BroMasters as a unique addition to their lineup of bringing value to the community. Alternatively, that perhaps one of the other venues invites BroMasters to be highlighted at one of their conferences in 2009.
Cheers,
Brad Mitchell
