Reduce your image sizes (both dimensions and filesizes), and optimize your thumbnails as well.

A simple PHP script could the alleviate the problem by leaving a cookie with the # of visits in from a unique IP, and when it hits say 3 it redirects to some 404 traffic sponsor or a warning message (text only)..

Actually, generating the thumbs dynamically should only take more cpu power, if the original size picture is on the server that is generating the thumbs dynamically, then it won't have to fetch the image from another site (which takes bandwidth). Thus dynamic generation is the same bandwidth as static thumbs + extra cpu power.

I doubt cutting out things like exif data from the image will save much bandwidth. Try reducing the size of your images?

I would also check your hotlink protection, this sounds like if you are being hotlinked

My images aren't that big, only some go up to 1000 by 800 px, others are smaller.

Hotlink protection in .htaccess, good point.

1000 x 800 ?
I would put anything on my server bigger than 600 unless it is funny shaped (then I got with 650) or a custom banner that I make. Thos pics wont even be viewable on most surfers computer screens. cut those down and save a shit load on BW. Plus you dont have to cut quality if you cut size

thanks, I suppose 750 x 600 (screen) should be the max size for user viewing and conserving bandwidth. Know any good programs that do bulk auto resizing for images or am I forced to manually photoshop resize each?
