No not at all. You do not feel the needles going in or coming out. Only time you feel them is when they tweak em or use electricty and so forth and even then it does not "hurt" it just feels different.

I really do not think you need to believe. Hell nobody is going to say that just believing in something cant make something work as it does all the time. Acupuncture works well on those that also do not believe it has special properties or anything Ki or psychic related around it.
In my case it to had a success and failure rate like all procedures do. I see a variety of specialists for my back for instance. I have a general MD, a orthopedic MDs, chiropractors, massage therapists, and an acupuncture person. Oh I also have a neurologist as well that I nearly forgot about that all on occasion deal with just my back issues. I really do not think I would need to believe in any of them to get some results.
Now if I wanted someone lay hands on me, or dip me in special waters I think I then better believe or I would not even stand a chance of having a placebo effect.
