I totally love that one, too!

Hmm check out Perfect Blue, and if you want to try a little bit of a series, google Battle Angel Alita. There are only a couple episodes, I think. If you want full movie length and quality, check out Miyazaki's movies.

Way to fucking many to list.

I particularly would reccomend ghost in a shell as a deffiniate.
I really liked the parody action of project A-ko.
      Black Magic M66
      Bubblegum crisis
      Princess Mononoke
      Fist of the Northstar
      Akira
      Mobile Suit Gundam
      Cowboy bebop

And that is without going naughty either. Just a small list off the top of my head.

That one was really cool. Seen it on IFC.

I remember liking Vampire Hunter D when I was a kid, but I haven't seen it for a long time. Akira was pretty cool too. Haven't really seen any other ones.

I just borrowed Princess Mononoke but haven't seen it. I did watch Howl's Moving Castle which was cool too.

Try to see the unedited version of Ninja Scroll. I had a copy on VHS.
Also see Cowboy Bebop and TriGun and any of the Crusher Joe movies

It really boils down to the story types you like. There is anime for everyone. They make stories for kids to adults, and for girls or boys tastes. Anime and Manga in general is the Japanese way of doing big budget Hollywood style movies or genre's. Hell it has been a crossover lately anyways and Hollywood is wanting the majority of any titles they can get.

Even many of the classics are still great today. I also will say even a lot of the hentai (naughty stuff) also still maintains great story lines.

So the real question is what genre or niche do you like in your stories.
PS, I always would rather have sub titles instead of dubbed.

Trigun is also my personal favorite, and I have watched it so many times I can practically recite every episode word for word. I also love Cromartie High School, which never fails to crack me up.

Vampire Hunter D is a fucking classic and never gets old. If you like it you should also try Hellsing...

I own Ninja Scroll on DVD. I caught it on TV years ago and went out and bought it.

I have to say that I have Akira (director's cut) on DVD and it didn't really hold up that well. The plot has soooo many holes in it. But visually it is definitely stunning and has a lot of action, so it's still entertaining.

Ninja Scroll is a fantastic classic. My personal favorites are

                            Akira
                            Ghost in a shell
Samurai X - spin off series based on Ninja Scroll
                            Blood the last Vampire
Kurenai no buta - (Porco Rosso) + all of the other movies made by Hayao Miyazaki, such as The Castle of Cagliostro, Kiki's Delivery Service, etc.

Biggest let down movie of all time I rekon was Spriggan. Over hyped, crappy plot line but it did have great visuals.

Couldn't find Vampire Hunter D at Best Buy, but I did get Ghost in the Shell... The collectors edition was mismarked at 14.99

Thanks for the suggestions, I will slowly start to check them all out.

Appleseed (and the upcoming appleseed 2), may not have the best plot lines, but the graphics were pretty unreal. A fusion of anime and CG.

                                        Pretty good lists people have.

I just ordered Death Note online a couple minutes ago after watching a coulple clips off adult swim.

Cowboy Bebop is my favorite series by far.

Just got done watching samurai 7 which was alright. I finished it though.

Fist of the North Star is cool to check out for sure too. Aikra is a must see just cause.
