It said 2 counts of spamming + 1 count of criminal conspiracy. So it's not 15 years just for spamming, it's a maximum of 15 years total.Originally posted by czarinaouch! 15 years is a lot of years! And just for sending email? This country blows!!!
It is true that spam sucks, but it's just electronic mail... rapists and murderers out there get 10 years, and she can get 15 for spamming? Damn!Comment

She was in trouble for SPAM not porn. The side effects don't change my opinion that putting someone in jail for sending emails is retarded and a waste. If you look at the last 10 spam convictions and the trouble they got into you will see that it is a 100% monetary agenda. Big ass fines, 0 or barely any time. If they were really concerned they would be locking people up, not charging them millions of dollars to stay out of jail.Originally posted by tony404No this shit feeds the right wing fire kids and old ladies getting this shit in their email, sticking porn in peoples faces isnt cool. Of course she knew what she was doing.Originally posted by RawAlexbaddog, sorry, but if this was a purely technical error (I pushed X then enter instead of enter then X) I wouldn't care. However, spam is spam. Jen spent enough time on webmaster boards to know what spam was, this isn't like a sudden, surprising "wow, spam is against the can-spam act" sort of thing. Can-spam and many other issues were top of the mind / top of the board issues, as has spam and spammers.
Trying to blame it on someone else (I didn't know the gun was loaded, that isn't my crack, she was only hitchiking) doesn't go over very well.

She'd be an idiot not to play dumb. Who the hell wants to go to jail???
You better believe if I ever got popped I'd play the "poor, dumb, innocent female" card. I'd cry to anyone who would listen.

Jennifer Clason, 33, of Raymond, N.H., was part of a spam gang that sent mass quantities of messages containing pornographic images, said officials from the Department of Justice. She admitted conspiring with two others, Jeffrey Kilbride, 39, of Venice, Calif., and James Schaffer, 39, of Paradise Valley, Ariz., in sending the messages, which advertised various Internet porn sites.
Clason, who pleaded guilty to two counts of violating the federal CAN-SPAM Act and to one count of criminal conspiracy, will forfeit her ill-gotten gains under the agreement she struck with authorities. She also faces a maximum of 15 years in prison.Comment

I believe in the American Justice system. When a law is broken the defendant is entitled to due process. The person will be sentenced accordingly within guidelines that were deemed fair by the same system that has worked for 200 years.Originally posted by chadglniI just can't fathom anyone condoning someone going to jail in a free country for sending emails. The law and guidelines exist and are in place...they are their for us to follow. If you choose to break it you suffer the consequences.Last edited by Young; 03-13-2006, 10:33 PM.★★★

would you feel sorry for someone getting their fingers chopped off for stealing a candybar?
What he is saying is that the punishment is extreme (if she got many years in jail for this). I agree.
Fucking people who get their 5th DWI get out of jail in less then 30 days, or don't go to jail at all in some cases. There is sooo much more out there 100x worse then this, like defrauding people for millions or harming people or even killing people that would get you far less time in jail.ICQ: 86364801 Email: will [at] innovativeassets [dot] com

For future reference...anyone who wants to choose spamming as their career of choice....go through the legislation process FIRST and fight for reduced sentences for spammers. Then decide if it's still worth it...
I know one thing...I wouldn't steal a fucking candy bar if my fingers were going to be chopped off.★★★

with that logic, why not execute people for speeding. Obviously making them pay a couple hundred and having their insurance go up doesn;t work.
how do you stop it... you follow the money. see who they are advertising. go after those companies if they have repeated offenders, make them police themselves... if you had companies out there that did not allow spam, then you would have very few spamers.
honestly, guy sends 2 million emails a day to company A. he does this for months, do you think company knows what he is doing ? LOL. Hit the company with some fines, see how long they tolerate spam after that. Once you get the company not accepting it and closing down accounts as soon as they get 1 compliant, the spammers will be bouncing around trying to find someone to take it. Make all the companies too scared to touch it.

I use non nude pictures in 95% of my advertising. I don't email btw, not even optin list. just to get that straight before i start getting called a spammer.
I would never let my child get online unsupervised. There are far worse things online then spam email that can harm children, which is why i would not let a child under 15 online without suppervision.
hand cut off from stealing candy bar was just an example of something being to extreme, not comparing spam email to stealing candy.
The people who hate spam more then murder wont feel that way after someone they know is murdered. this is a stupid comment and i hope not that case.
What pissing me off more then spam email. junk mail to my house, that looks like an invoice or check and it is shit, BUt this is legal. The fucking 20 spam faxes i get a day, that waste my ink, but this is legal. The bullshit phone calls i get at home, even though my number is on the list. Can;t wait till they start calling cell phones.
On a side note, if someone sends a nude picture to a child in an email they should be charge with distributing nudity to a minor, has to be some type of law like that. I do think the nudity in the emails really suck, you never know who will get them. Non nude should be treated less serve IMO.ICQ: 86364801 Email: will [at] innovativeassets [dot] com

break law smoking weed, get a ticket.
break law selling weed, get probabtion
break law dwi, 30 day license suspension
break law selling weed to kids, get probabtion
break law molesting kids, get 10 years if you lucky (get moved to another church if you are a priest)
break law taking nude pictures of kids, get 10 years if you are lucky.
break law sending out spam email, get up to 15 years.
what is wrong with these laws?
well you can get more time in jail for sending a kid an email then you would if you sold them drugs, took naked pictures of them or molested them.
