I've heard drivesavers is the best from both an IT pro I know and from the Apple store. http://www.drivesavers.com/ I sent them one drive that couldn't be recovered, but they were very professional, very fast and didn't charge me a dime, even though they paid for all the overnight shipping. first off sorry to hear that. Have you tried to freeze the drive? Take it out put in the freezer over night, put it back in your comp sometimes you can get a few min to get the data off before the drive heats up and crashes. It really works and has saved me once.

very pricy thing to do.
if it's the OS and not the hard drive then you can boot under a linux live CD and see if you can get access to your HD files.
i believe you can use knoppix verision of linux to get access to your HD if you can and then you can copy them to a USB key.
if the HD is completly done then you have no choice but pay the money.

Like BadDog said, they will give you a price range of usually $500-$1500, just depends. They will send you a Email with a letter to take to the UPS store, and overnight it to them for FREE. They will then look at it, and give you an exact price quote in a couple of days. They will also allow you to see what they have recovered, and you can also decide what to pay to have recovered or not. It also depends on how hard it is to recover the info.

My HD was 300gig I believe it had 256 gig of data. 100% was recovered.
My Total was $1,000 for these priceless photos, next day air shipping both ways, and a 500 gig external hard drive...

maybe, but nonetheless very nice. I had data failure a few years ago and I had to do recovery (~1.5TB) total cost = $5,000.

Mine is clicking, so I think mine is a mechanical failure, I doubt there is actual data loss.

That's a classic, it's usually the head actuator skipping the platters hence the clicking. Luckily there's a high success rate for recovery if you know what you're doing. Now go copy that data and store the backup in another location!
