Four Indicted in Pirate Bay Case

"Suddenly the founders of the Pirate Bay are not so hearty. The four men behind the popular file-sharing site were indicted in Sweden on Thursday on charges of being accessories to breaking copyright law. And this is more than just a shot across the bows. The prosecutor reckons that they can be hooked for 'promoting other people's copyright breaches' but there will be no walking the plank: instead, they face fines of up to $200,000 and the confiscation of all their hardware. 'The Swedish prosecutor listed dozens of works that had been downloaded through The Pirate Bay site, including The Beatles' Let It Be, Robbie Williams' Intensive Care and the movie Harry Potter & The Goblet of Fire. Plaintiffs in the case include Warner, MGM, Columbia Pictures, 20th Century Fox Films, Sony BMG, Universal and EMI.'"

That being said, I'm pretty sure that a1r3k will jizz on this thread.

They say they make almost no money. The small amount they make is to pay for running the site.

In media today it's estimated they earn around $3M/year.

If convicted, the four men could face a maximum of two years in prison.

they will not get prison even if they are convicted, that's 99% sure!

most importat is to get their money and get the site closed IMHO.

the question is what does this mean for the adult industry and other sites like it.
No doubt one may quote history to support any cause, as the devil quotes scripture.

They were certainly the most brazen torrent operators out there. Wonder how this will pan out.

Nah. I read sometime that they took precautions against a raid by distributing their hardware worldwide.
They will not go down because of this.

They have been making fun of copyright laws for a long time. When a new movie comes out, they even skin their site. It's ridiculous.
They deserve a far higher fine than $200,000 and definitely should be put to prison.

I don't understand how they get away with it.
One should think that if no laws exist to convict them, the Swedish government would create such laws.
