The school is an alternative school (one of many different types of alternative schools) within the Toronto District School Board system and it is afro-CENTRIC -- ANYONE CAN GO TO THIS SCHOOL - NOT JUST BLACK KIDS -- THE CURRICULUM FOCUSES ON AFRICAN-CANADIAN HISTORY, instead of European-Canadian history, but children from all ethnic backgrounds and of all races and skin colours may attend -- it is up to their parents to register them, just like any other school in the TDSB. THERE IS NO SEGREGATION!!!!

The reason for the Afro-Centric school is to educate African-Canadian (and all other) children about the African-Canadian experience -- WHICH IS VERY DIFFERENT FROM THE AFRICAN-AMERICAN EXPERIENCE, which has been seeping it's way into Canadian culture through media (MUSIC, t.v., etc).

The goal of the Afro-Centric school is to discourage black youths from dropping out of school, which has been identified as an issue within the black community in the GTA.
