Philippines is a nice one though. At least they speak English and are lax on their visa regulations, even though they don't have to be. It's only a payment or fine if you want to stay past your stamp time.
Malaysia. LOL Not unless you are a Muslim and just want a place to hide away. Not much going on there once you have been there a few months. I tried it, though KK (Kota Kinabalu) was called Jesselton back then.
Though if you can find a way to stay in Hong Kong... That could be a real option. Incredible city.

Live in Hong Kong, and have been on and off for the past 20 years...absolutely love it..moved back from the US cause I couldnt stay away.
Most Island getaways are just that...getaways for a few months at the most...but if you base your operations out of HK then you can have best of both the city life in HK and getaway for a weekend or longer to many of the beach destinations around Asia.
I know a lot of Eurpoeans who move here for a short work stay and never go back...but again when you consider the average pay package an Expat gets here there is no incentive to move away.
