    Well, I'm waiting for my bill from my ER stay last Friday with the Kidney Stone. I live in Canada, but I'm not Canadian, so don't have BC Med. The nurse told me I was the "model patient". I had "crazy Hindu" lady next to me, who didn't speak a word of English. Then, the old man across for me that didn't know where he was. He pissed all over everything, and I mean EVERYTHING!!!! So I'm waiting to see how much this will cost me. I'm thinking in the 2-3k range.
    Anyone wanna sig spot.......cheap????

                I still owe 5 digits in medical bills, they are starting to send collection agencies at me now. Blood sucking nazi fucks....here ya go sir, a bill for 30k, we'll expect to have it all in 6 months.

                        This year, gallbladder surgery cost was 30k and my bill was fitty dolla.

                                Upon writen request they have 30 days to send you proof in writing that you owe the bill. Just keep asking for proof. You never received it. It's fun to fuck back. When they finally send you something to sign for, tell the delivery guy/mailman that aint you.

However, in my case I always seem to get stuck paying the remainder of what the insurance company refuses to pay. So if my total bill is $500 and my insurance company says "We are only going to pay $300 for that service", I end up paying the other $200 out of my own pocket. That seems somewhat contradictary to what the article was saying. Maybe it just depends on which insurance company you have...

                                            Anyway if you would like to talk to me more about this off the board I know so many loops and wholes on how to get out of those bills. You just have to know how to work the system and 90% of people don't know how to and just take it up the ass. haha
                                            That doesn't really apply anymore, the insurance carriers all have negotiated rates with all their in-network medical providers for every procedure. So whether you tell them before or after, the charge to your insurance company will be the same.

                                                Get better insurance and make sure you only get medical treatment that is considered within their network and you shouldn't have to pay the remainder.

                                                                            Your insurance probably only pays 75-80% of whatever the bill is. You probably have a cheaper plan that doesnt cover 100%

                                                                                I have always stayed in-network. I used to be with HealthNet for years, and they are the company that would only pay the partial bill and I would be stuck with the remainder. My understanding was that the insurance company works out a deal in advance with in-network providers to only charge/pay a certain amount, so whenever I would receive a bill for the remainder of what the insurance company wouldn't pay, I could never figure out if it was the insurance company screwing me, or the healthcare provider screwing me. Either way, I was getting screwed.

                                                                                Our company recently switched to United Healthcare and I haven't yet had an opportunity to see if they are the same way, but from what I hear, United Healthcare is one of the best health insurance companies out there. I am just lucky that I work for a company that provides health insurance.

                                                                                My two cents on HealthNet: for those of you looking for new health insurance, avoid HealthNet if at all possible. Their customer service sucks and I had to fight with them every single time to get them to pay my bill, and even then I always had to pay at least part of the bill on top of my co-pay.

                                                                                                For Americans, many hospitals and doctors, for that matter, have the nifty payment plan. There was a time that, if you reneged on paying said medical institution or medico, there was nothing they could do about it. Now, if you renege on payments, you will be thrown into collections and it will negatively impact your credit ratings.

                                                                                                There is talk now about changing the interest free payments into interest payments, kind of like a credit card. It will start out low and then get higher and higher as the , ahem, processing costs, rise.

                                                                                                                                                                Thats why we are not even in the top 20 in life expectancy in the world. lol Also there is a myth people without medical insurance get the same treatment this is not true. The leading reason for bankrupcy is medical bills thats a problem.
