How to sell content.

I have a ton of content i am just sitting on.. I have either wanted to develop sites with or shot because the model needed extra money.

Then next thing I know.. 2 or 3 years goes by and I have not done anything with the content because I am so busy with other projects, so i'm hoping I can sell some of this stuff.. clear off some space on my hard drive and buy some new photography gear..

So what is the best way to sell content?

In a bit of detail my question are..

how to sell mini-dv tapes ( should I just copy them and send out the mini-dv tape or should I encode it and upload a 5gb file)?

Should I sell small sets ( 3 sets at xxx dollars) or just a huge lot of stuff ( 25 sets at xxx)

Exclusive vs. non-exclusive is there really that much of a different in net profit?

I guess those are the major questions..

good luck with that, if you want the quick money then you sell it exclusively, if you are smart and want long term income then you sell licencees or nonexclusive either thru something like clips for sale or similar programs.

Ok.. Pics.. That is not really the point of this thread..

but hell.. here are some

Model-1 - Kayden
She is the current girl I am shooting. I have over 3,000 images of her. I can even do custom shoots of her. She will have her own site in a couple of months.. but in the mean time I am building up a ton of content and I can lets some of it go because I will build up so much of it. I am sure by the start of next week.. I will be at over 5,000 pics.. and 8 dvd tapes.. and we are shooting two to three times a week.

Model-2 - Ashton
She contacted me on OMP / MM and I know a TON of other adult photographers have worked with her. This would be great add on content to what you already have of her. I have over 3000 images ( no video)

Model-3 - Julie -

I have over 2,000 images of her and either one or two mini-dv tapes. I wanted to make a site with her and never got around to it

( shoot with a waterproof camera)

Some misc content..

Have a ton of content of this girl.. and videos

I can see you've got mostly solo girl content - most suitable for multi-solo girl sites.
So I'd rather tried to sell it exlcusively, 1 girl's content - 1 customer (I mean not breaking it into smaller batches

Assuming you don't have time to develop the content neither you have time to sell it. You might want to have a look at brokerage option, but that will take big cut of your income.

Also you don't have much content to run a content store, nor there's much models/variety.

so I vote for exclusive.

As for tapes - I'd rather encode it and deliver m2t (or any other raw format) files on dvd, that 've been working fine both for customer and content provider.

I have at least 50 girls and maybe around 250,000 images.. and a maybe like 50 mini-dv of content.. so I have a ton of content.. Problem is I don't want it to go out the door unless it is retouched and read to rock and roll..

Yea.. I thought about burning it to a 8 gig dvd.. then I can almost get one mini-dv on an 8. gig dvd-rom

put it all together as a package and blow it out at a decent price.

forget about non-exclusive content sales unless it's a popular niche you know there is a market ready to buy it - or you won't make much money and you'll spend too much work/time trying to sell it.

shooting exclusive is the best idea - if you have customers of course.

I moved my sites to Vacares Hosting. I've saved money, my hair is thicker, lost some weight too! Thanks Sly!

I have had my sites, and stores for some time milking money out of my content. However, I sold off some older, and excess in the past month. So you can do it a couple of ways.

Clips4Sale - disaster for anything but fetish content.

my friend put up videos of an unseen absolutely top notch solo teen girl in very hardcore action - she was a solo girl site model who decided she didn't want a site, so I told him to take the videos and put them on Clips4Sale - he sold a few and that's it. very disappointing.

Yea.. see for me.. I think I did like 500 dollars on clips for sale.. I gave it to the gf.. to run and update and stuff like that.. it has never been a big money maker for me..

now if I had time.. and really did it right.. I am sure I could do well with it.. but in terms of time / money.. it is not worth it to me

maybe I am doing something wrong..

Don't open a content store, tough to compete with the established ones and will need a lot of work.

Brokering is the easiest and take the least effort. Go non exclusive unless someone give you a killer deal and a get out clause if they don't meet certain targets.

Selling it exclusive to a sponsor might be an option, expect $300 to $400 a scene video and images. Unless very special.

Opening a paysite is an option, big one off site or mini sites. You should know the answer and have the time to build/promote them.

Partnering with someone else for them to run the sites is an option if you can find someone who can produce the right deal, again with a get out clause.

Beware Greeks bearing wooden horses. It costs nothing to BS someone and down the line it might be too late to change course.

Yea.. one of my goals is opening a content store.. but again.. no time..

I run sites and they do very well..

however here is a great example

I have like over 3000 images of her.. ( shoot in 2004 i think) and a site almost done.... I am not ready to open the site.. it is 90% done.. but it has been in that state for almost a year.. now..

I can either keep sitting on the site..( makes no money)
or try to launch her site as is ( i am not happy with that so that will not happen)
or at least sell some of the content and make some money.. ( if I have to take down her content / site.. no but deal..) because it is not doing anytthing because the site is not done.

I have many other girls / solo girl content like this..

This may or may not be relevant to this thread, but it's an insight into the content producing market today and I'm being general. It relates to recent chats I've had.

At a recent meeting a big sponsor said he would not buy my content because it was everywhere. Take a look around at the content producing market and tell me what makes you think non exclusive is everywhere. If it was the content producers would be rich. The opposite is true. Also custom would be a lot more expensive. You don't sell a scene for $400 that will sell "everywhere" non exclusive.

This has come from a few sponsors. They want exclusive content and we are very happy to shoot it for them. However very often the exclusive they want is the same as every other sites exclusive content. One asked for content like Party Hardcore, until he found out the price. Every person in the room is paid and signed a model release. It's not scenes you can shoot on a tight budget.

Another was after gang bang with two cameras, 6 boys who can perform in front of each other and cameras do not do it for $50. They know they are few and far between and charge accordingly.

Then a sponsor wanted lesbian scenes, so I suggested multi girls scenes to make it different. Again the budget does not stretch to 5 or more girls.

The result is we are all left to sell content that is as exclusive as a row of baked beans on a super market shelf. The difference between Heinz and Cross and Blackwell or minimal.

Except if you have the balls and the money to step out and go a different route. The number of sites offering "Hen Night Orgies" Gang Bangs and Multi girl lesbian teen scenes are limited, the ratios reflect it.

Today the way to go in content is price if you want to sell to the sponsor and quality if you want to sell to the surfer. Quality porn has nothing to do with the image clarity. A crystal clear HD movie can still be crap porn.
