    Signup Prices

The paysite model needs to be overhauled, if you ask me.

It's insane what some companies offer their customers.
Thousands of gigabyte of content ready for download for only $30 a month.
Sites linked together to networks to combat the (self-inflicted!) drop in sign-ups.

Think of what you are doing, people! A DVD also costs up to $30, and it contains only a few scenes. If the content is nice, people will still buy the DVD (or suck the torrent of it - but that is another topic).

I want to offer a paysite with only 4-6 exclusive, premium quality and fully-downloadable scenes (a couple of GB in size). Those scenes would get replaced with new ones every month and the old scenes would get removed.

Would you think I would get many chargebacks?

The attitude of some people in this industry in the style of "we don't care about filesharing, we just produce new content" is not very far-sighted.

Inflation continues, prices stay the same. Higher memberships mean higher payouts. But what will consumers think about this, especially with cross sales present on many join forms? And what is the right price to maintain good ratios and volume?

You started this thread, so what are your thoughts on how much people should be charging?

My question is not so much about how much to charge.
Maybe the thread title is misleading.
The signup prices can stay at $25-30.

It's about not offering downloads in the size of hundreds of DVDs for the price of one DVD.

Perhaps if its very niche specific orientated, and you only want to get a modest number of members then yes... If its more generic then no...

This pricing model is to due to the competitive nature of the net and cheap content (thanks to the DVD companies for licensing their movies for $200 a pop).

I agree with the logic, however, as others have said. The market, and current state of the net keep things locked how they are.

It's not to say they couldn't change however. But it would be easier for the niche markets they the same rerun hardcore, mainstream sex sites.

if we increase the membersship price, the tube and torrent sites will get MORE popular than ever.

But I agree... I was charging 24,95$, and felt that is was way to low.

As I said before, I think prices could stay as they are.
The question is if you could cut down the content you offer for this price.
Or are we already at a stage where the surfers will complain if they don't get hundreds of gigabyte / DVDs for their measly money?

I'm SURE there's a LOT of surfers out there right now, close to join pages, that are thinking:
"Fuck.. this chick looks nice, but damn.. 35 bucks for a month when all I want is to see THIS babe NOW..!"

                        Who's with me here?
Up the pricing by $10 on tight niche sites, and drop them to $15-$20 for more mainstream sites.
Give out less content, maybe cut the membership length to 2 weeks (rebilled 3:rd week)...

I think a lot of guys think it's overkill with a $35 megasuperduper site membership.. for the jackoff-impulse they want to take care of *at the moment*.

THAT'S where I'm seeing Tubes taking shares of what could be a profitable corner of the market.

In my opinion the price should get increased to $39.95 and for exclusive content maybe eve $49.95.

bw cost $ - alot of content can = high bandwidth bill. That's why there is throttlebox.

I agree. If you buy all your content from content stores, you can of course blow it out.

But I think it should work for niche and solo girl sites.
To quote one successful example: http://yoursouthernbelle.com/
Belle of course has it easy to produce content (with almost zero production cost) several times a week.
Nevertheless, they don't make their entire archives available for their members.
Members of this site get access to the archive of the current year only. (Depending on when you sign up, I think it's also the last year).

The older archives are available as DVD upsells in the member area.

It's about finding the right balance. I see some sites have totally lost this balance and will soon be selling their content for pennies if they continue their chosen path.

We increased the price to 39.95$ from 29.95$ on 2 of our biggest sites few months ago, and its converts and retains same. That means customers will pay whatever price you ask for the good product.
