Ok people sit back grab hold of somebody here comes Wolfies rant for the week
The real problem is the same it has always been: To many people believing the myth that porn is a get rich quick scheme.
Those people think let's slam a few galleries together post it to every source known to man and beyond, then sit back and watch the $$$ roll in.
Then after they are presented with the bandwith bill they start screaming like butchered pigs that all those dialer pushers are to blame, and offcourse those damn TGP's for giving it away for free etc... etc...
It makes me wonder:
Did those webmasters ever sit down and take the time to review their marketing skills?
Have they ever taken the time to read up on targetted advertising, bannerplacement and design?
I mean come on why is it that I can do with 3k other people can't even do with 50k?
Is it because I'm going strong for 9 years now and counting?
Is it because with most of the marketing techniques out there I was one of the first to work with it?
The answer is NO!
Back when I started as a webmaster, building free sites(yes I gave EVERYTHING away for free, and still do) the first thing I did was read everything there was to read on bannerplacement and effective marketing.
Back then there was no such resource for adult sites so I got my info from the linkexchange newsmails etc......
And damn their webmaster digest rocked!
The second thing I did was I talked to people I know are crazy about online porn, discussed my sites with them altered it into something they loved!
Back then I also started running an erotic story mailinglist and that got me A LOT of interested members reading every word of the mails they got. In fact they liked it so much they came back to my sites more and more and I received mails that they only bought memberships because I promoted the paysites. Not because they liked me so much but because they trusted my judgement that much.
Now I still run sites(TGP, free sites, AVS sites, CJ sites I'm into everything adult related) but my efforts have shifted more into the adult webmaster field like sponsor programs and webmaster resources. initialy because I noticed this lack of education I'm rambling about years ago. In fact it was the cause for one of the first and best freehost to go belly up!
So I can conclude that the reason I am succesful in this business is because I take it seriously and make sure I am informed about every aspect of it.
I think a lot of the traffic mongers today(Easypic, Sublime and all the others struggling to make a profit) lack the above and this also goes for a lot of sponsors that have to tighten their rules and payrates time after time, just because they don't have a clue on how to sell a site.
You don't sell a site by closing a page and unleash a dozen pop ups in your prospects faces, you don't sell your site tricking them into something calling it free.
You see this is a scenario of what happens in the above example:
Joe surfer comes to a TGP and clicks on a gallerylink.
He's pleasantly suprised by the nice pictures and when he learns on the gallerypage its sponsor A that provided them, he's interested in getting more so he clicks on the link.
There he sees the cost and being a little short on cash right now he leaves with the intention of returning next month when payday has passed and he can afford the membership.
But what happens? on closing the page(or using his back button) he's being slammed by consoles offering free crap that is not realy free. after his browser crashes, or perhaps his whole PC do you realy think he will consider taking amembership for a site that sponsor offers?
I think not. The result: 1 missed sale that's never comming back, plus all the friends of Joe surfer that will hear what motherfuckers those sponsors are, and will never join also.
Conclusion: the problem with the adult bizz is ignorance on both the webmaster and the sponsor's part.
Well that's my rant for today if interested let me know and my following rant will be about a solution to the problem, I know works because I use it
