I think it all boils down to ethics..

Regardless of what a release might have in it..

She told Playboy she didn't want to be involved with the magazine, but they go and put her on the cover...

So they basically said, "We don't give a fuck what you want.. We're Playboy and we care more about money than your wishes."

I'm "kinda" with ya on that. The only thing is that if she posed for the picture and someone else has the rights to it, then they get to say what can be done with it.

You're right that Playboy is a little tacky for going around her since she clearly doesn't want to be associated with them, but if someone else owns that pic and she doesn't have any use/license/control rights then they can publish it without her approval. Playboy is kind of stuck with the problem of needing a picture for a cover decided by an online poll. If they are trying to sell magazines because they think someone wants to read who the hottest celebs are, then I guess they need a hot celeb for the cover.

Personally I never agree with those polls and magazine lists. The worst, in my opinion, is the Maxim Hot 100. Whoever in their right fucking mind would put some skrank like Paris Hilton over Sofia Vergara has no idea of what hot is. Nobody outside of LA gives a fuck how "hot" their career is. Adding that in would be like saying that Bret Butler was the hottest woman on Earth when her television show was in the top ten. Recockulous.

You're 100% right if that's the case.. and if it is, then Sony is just as tacky for doing it against her wishes as well.. They did say that they were duped in that they were told that the photo was just going to be used inside the mag along side the other toppers...

Fortunately, the major magazines like Forbe's and the like have her reaction to it all, so she's been able to defend herself a bit..

Not sure if it'll hurt the magazine or not, but I'd like to think it knocks em off of their high horse..

Typical hollywood bullshit. They supply Playboy with the images. Then they tell Alba to tell the public how she didn't want it there. People buy issues of the magazine because of the 'scandal'. Alba gets more exposure because of it. The money is flowing and everybody is happy. Joe Public is duped again. Job well done.

Her little bit of exposure on the cover isn't gonna do much in that the pic is plastered all over the net..

And by the way P'boy did the deed, they must need her a lot more than she needs them..

And in that it's been spread heavily that there are no nudes of her in it, I can't see sales doing much better.. and possibly worse if people think the mag is trying to fool them into buying it..
