What is a good hotel in LA to stay at? (near to center, bars etc)

Funny i have alived arounf here for about 4 years but never stayed in a hotel.
But I can say the hilton is usually a good bet.Like the desert needs the rain

The tower at the Century Plaza has phenomenal views.
If you want high end and want to see celebs, The Beverly Hills Hotel.
The Peninsula is gorgeous also.
