The US President has much less power then you're giving them credit for.
Congress and the supreme court keep them in check for the most part.
If you remember Clinton signed a law that would have outlawed internet porn and the Supreme Court struck it down ! It was the Conservatives on the court that struck it down 5 to 4.

There is a chance of violence if a Republican wins.
The most serious threat being if Obama gets the nomination and then the election has racial overtones to it. If he were to lose such a fight, the day after could get pretty ugly.
Another concern would be the war and government riots that have been pretty peaceful, but probably only because everyone believes the Republicans are a sinking ship. If that ends up not being the case, bottled up emotions at these rallies could finally blow.Comment
