When I get to the States for Xbix what do I tell Customs?

Do I say I am going to a conference or just say it is a holiday?

What do they ask......?

Also do I need to 'clean' my laptop?

I would be very pissed if I couldnt get in.

I assume your entering under the 'visa waiver' scheme? ie you havnt been pre issued with a visa for work?

If thats the case, your not allowed to work at all... So if you say your there on biz... CAN OF WORMS!

When they ask you what your doing just say 'Vacation' (With a southern drawl, and a big cheesy grin) and youll be fine...

With the large amount of non US residents attending conventions in Vegas I'm surprised their Chamber of Commerce doesn't have a web page about this. I'm also surprised the xbix people don't either.

Yep, that's right. As for 'cleaning' your laptop, its highly unlikely they will even look.. And if they do, there's no law against having porn (for personal use of course) on your own PC... Provided of course its not anything 'extreme' (read CP) but I doubt that would apply to you anyway...

I have NEVER had a problem telling them either on vacation, visiting friends or attending a convention.

I usually tell them I am going to a convention and then kicking back with some friends ... which is the 100% truth.

Just have the address of where you are staying - hotel included - they are sticklers for that.

And I have been through US Customs more than 25 times in the last 4 years.

plan A: tell them that you are here to "Kill the great Satan" and see what happens....

plan B: tell them your on vacation and dont worry about the laptop, just bring on porn dvd to "give" to the customs people.

I always clean out the lappy .. pack business cards and promo in my suitcase ..and check it .. bring lappy with me .. tell them where i am going .. and with these conventions it is pretty obvious.. Vegas .. to have fun .. Miami to have fun .. if they ask what you do .. just tell them the truth .. "Internet marketing" ..
