The art of "modding" a forum.
I actually wrote this (im bored) and also checked the spelling like 3 times! This is what i think makes a good mod.
First you have to understand is, it is impossible to please everyone. While you make one group of people happy others will not be. For example, while make a sig size rule made the advisors happy, it made other unhappy. ext.
Ok, back to the mod thing. First of all, you have to check your ego at the door. Don?t think of yourself as policing the boards. Think of yourself as part of the administration staff, there to do a job. And moderating is a job, it takes time, effort.
In a forum you willl find people you like, dislike, can?t stand, or just despise. As far as being a moderator goes, you have to treat everyone the same. This means someone you like gets the same treatment as someone you dislike. If you edit, delete or ban a member you dislike for some broken rule, you have to do the same for someone you like. This is a lot harder than you think. This also means you cannot do "favors" for people who you like. Perfect example is sleazydreams (im not hating you sleazy, its just an example) sig. Why is he allowed to have a big ass sig while we have small ones? Another example, texasdream says you are allowed to have "one time announcements" only. Why is juicy (again no hate, just an example) allowed to plug his fleshlight atleast one time a day? If you are going to enforce a rule you must do it to everyone, not just to people who you dislike.
Clear communication between members and board owner (lens) is a must too. This is very important.
