because ICQ was there first, we installed it, added buddies and everything, we have chat histories, and then Yahoo Messenger came along and all the other but we had no reason to switch from ICQ to any other.
the others did not provide anything that interested us that ICQ doesn't have
ICQ was the first major messenger out there and webmasters were among the first to use it. The old school webmasters all used it so that's how it went forward. Had yahoo been the first I suspect we would all be on yahoo.

No BS... My Dad beta tested ICQ at TI about a year before the public got it.
I remember groups of us in the business getting together and having trade/traffic chats in the rooms on ICQ. We would all be sitting in the same IRC room but fire up ICQ so nobody could log/see what was being talked about.
ICQ contains my contact list from the past 8 years... I couldn't recreate that very easily with another chat program. Chat logs- my ICQ # has been the same for 10 years so people can still track me down- everyone uses it- plus I'm not tied to the ICQ software because I can use Pidgen and just add all my messenger IDs.
ICQ sucks and I only use it coz everybody uses it......most of us have
more than 1 computer and work from multiple locations so your chat
history are useless unless you're on the same computer on which you
had the conversation. Google Talk is more useful as it allows you the option
to store every chatlog in you gmail account.....
The reason we're stuck to ICQ is that a LOT of adult guys are old dogs
and it's just too hard for them to learn new tricks......it reflects in everything
they do not just Messengers.....

ICQ was the first, which is why most of us in the industry use it.
Before ICQ we used a little program called "talk.exe" which was a pain in the arse. You used to have to figure out your IP address and email it to the person you wanted to talk to before you could talk to each other. When ICQ came around it was a huge improvement.
“If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.”
For most people its history that made them locked to ICQ .. but hell GTalk also have history and saves it on the web .. you are not worried about losing it, and is accessible on your home PC, work PC, laptop and every other shit.
I wish I could start a campaign to use Gtalk or something like a petition ..

Thanks for that and saving me the time of typing it myself.
