Yeah... seems to be a trend.
My gal and I went to a wedding a year or so ago, and, right before the bride and groom left, the bride yelled out "Thanks for coming to _My_ Wedding!"
Friends of the groom, we both just looked at each other, thinking, "We're pretty sure the groom has something to do with this thing, too."
Oh well... they say it's her day... and, involved with the preliminaries of planning my own right now, I can attest to the fact that's pretty much the case.... no matter how much they try and include you.
I mean, I'd be happy with a Drive-through rubber stamp dealio involving a guy dressed up like Elvis.
