Canon EOS 40D Vs Nikon D300. Photographers step inside

Im a canon guy got the 40d if I could do it over I would have the nikon 300

If you're a Canon guy that means you already have lenses. Easy choice.

That's a tough one. It's like asking whether one should buy a PC or a Mac. Canon fanboys will advice Canon and Nikon fanboys will advice Nikon. They are both decent cameras, you may need to go out to the store and choose one based on your gut. Whichever feels like it fits better to you will be the one

I myself have been using Canon for years and having a set of 6 pro lenses, it is a no brainer for me. But that's once again a biased opinion from a hard core Canon user

Yes I already have a couple lensees but i can sell them. Nikon look really good, but i was shooting only with Canon cameras and i know all the navigation with my eyes closed.

Yep I always go with canon and it's nice the lens are interchangeable with digital and 35mm

Some of the best photos I've ever seen were taken with a basic Russian camera. The guy is a poster here, look him up.

Preferences based on minor differences won't change the final product.

I also have a Zenith, old USSR camera with a nice optics

the bottom line is that in the hands of a pro any digital slr with a decent CCD and optics is a good choice because we primarily shoot in manual mode

I shoot print magazine layouts with a D100 but could get identical results with a D40

exposure is exposure it doesnt vary from camera to camera so when it comes to more expensive cameras all you are paying for are the extras like exposure modes and metering and whatnot...if the glass is comparable and the CCDs are the same size as long as the camera is calibrated properly any manual mode DSLR is as good as another

if you arent a pro this stuff matters a bit more...if you dont already have lenses then Id use this as my guidline:

where will you be shooting?

If you only shoot in clean environments like studios etc go with either one

If you are going to shoot in harsh environments (the desert, the beach etc) FOR sure go with the Nikon Nikons are known for their durability,,,theres a reason the F5 was the camera of choice for photojournalists....you couldn't hurt it.

I shot in the desert outside vegas once an all day shoot had a Nikon DSLR and a canon DSLR also had a sony minidv cam (dx1000) and a canon (xl1)

The sony and the nikon survived the shoot both canons got sand in them (from the wind) and died

that told me all I will ever need to know.

cant go wrong with either, i dont know too much about the canon but i think the nikon is newer technology. but ofcourse i have nikon gear only because i started with a fuji s2 which was based on nikon lenses... i use the d2x now and have never had any problems with nikon lenses or cameras. both canon and nikon have great customer support.

I like the skin tone the Canon DSLR's yield over the Nikon's... and as I shoot porn that's important. Otherwise, there's really no differences between the cameras... they're just machines for creating images, and it's the shooter that's the most significant variable in the equation.

I'm partial to the Canon features and CMOS sensor.

Although, it's ALL about lighting.
