    things to backup when you reinstall OS

    oh boy, its that time for my laptop.

    things i need to backup.

    roboform
    ff bookmarks
    ie bookmarks
    flock bookmarks
    applications downloaded + receipts and serials
    outlook mail


    what else?

                  fonts, if you have a lot on your system that you've added. Photoshop brushes and shapes and stuff too if you've installed some of those.

                  I guess those two things are mostly for artists

                          If you have the space, do a complete backup as well, that way you won't be kicking yourself when you realise you've forgotten something.

                          I usually only back up "Documents and Settings" (Windows XP), "System State" and the directory where I keep all of the install exes. I do not restore "Program Files", I reinstall everything.

                                                      Also, when you get set up this time make a Ghost image of your fresh install with applications.

                                                      Then just reformat to that each time. My girl taught me that one. She's good for something.

                                                                  Copy your trillian contacts folder and your entire stats remote folder if you use them. Just formatted my machine today because Vista was going crazy on me. Turns out I had a bad stick of ram. I went back to XP.

                                                                          I like to make backup of entire partition, get some tools, and forget all problems, just make regular backups on external drive
