I have 5 computers. 3 are desktops with XP and 2 are laptops, also running XP. Neither one of them can open DVD-R and DVD+R or read them and forget about writing to them.

jjjay: I think you are right, but I don't want to mess with my windows updates, since one of my computers got messed up once by installing service pack 2. Can I just download those drivers without updating windows?Comment

first of all, I would check the models of the dvd drives you've got. then check whether they actually support + and -. some drives only support one or the other.Originally posted by czarina
it might be as easy as a software/firmware update, but also it might not be. check with the manufacturer website for more info.
you may have to get new dvd drives. they're pretty cheap and a doddle to install.
alternatively, you can buy external dvd drives that just plug into usb. they're slightly more expensive.Comment
