                                              For months, Spidey fans have been speculating on who the big villian will be in the upcoming Spider-Man 3 (due out next year). Sam Raimi has gone on record as saying he's not a big fan of Venom and wanted to wait to use the character in the film series. (I can't blame him really...I liked Venom at first, but I really think the character got overexposed).

                                              Well, it seems we'll get two villains for the next Spidey installment--the already confirmed Sandman and another villian played by Topher Grace. For months, I've read rumors that he'd step into the role of Venom, though there were others who said Raimi didn't want Venom and Grace would play Electro or another second-tier Spidey villain.

                                              Seems that the odds of the second villain being Venom are greater today based on the new publicity poster for Spidey 3 that's hit the net. From the story at Superhero Hype, that is not a black and white photo, but the actual black costume. As any good super hero fan knows, Spidey had the black costume first (it was an alien symbiote in the regalar continuity and his dad helped create the suit in the Ultimate continuity), rejected it and it bonded with Eddie Brock to create Venom.

                                              Seeing that poster, it makes me think Venom's on tap for the next film. Or is he? I can see Raimi banking on the fact that Spidey 3 will be a huge hit and there will be a Spidey 4. So why not introduce the black suit in Spidey 3, start the Venom storyline and then have Venom be the big villain for Spidey 4. Follow the mold of X2 and Batman Begins where the story ends but the seeds are sewn for the next installment (though I honestly doubt X3 will deliver on that promise since it's directed by Brett Ratner and is being rushed into theaters by FOX....). Also, we can't forget that the last time we looked Harry Obsourne had found his father's stash of Goblin gear, thus creating the possibility that the Green Goblin could return to haunt Spidey.

                                              All I can say is--man, I cannot wait for Spidey 3 to hit theaters. If the first two are any indication, this is going to be one of the best super hero movies EVER.

                                                      That Iron Man designed suit makes Spidey look like he got kicked out of the Substitute Legion of Super Heroes.

                                                      Why they fucking keep changing costumes is beyond fucking me.

                                                      The New Avengers started out as a kick ass new twist and got me back to reading the book, but soon as I saw that costume I almost gagged.

                                                      As for the Venom costume. I don't think the new Spidey costume is black. That photo of him in the rain is just a monochromatic approach to atmosphere as the storyline is probably about the misery of being Spider-Man and someone took it beyond what is necessary.

                                                      Spidey has always had offbeat villains. They should just toss in villains for the fuck of it since it takes for-fucking-ever to make these movies. A 3 year wait is way too long.

                                                      I play Spider-Man 2 on playstation every day and never get tired of it. I've almost maxed it out and can't wait for the Spidey 3 ps2 game. I got the Ultimate Spiderman PS2 game but it don't cut it although the art is real nice.

                                                              I hate Spiderman 2 more than the first. I only went to see it after consulting the IMDB (has a great rating). What's the appeal? Spidey seems way too fuckin Disney...

                                                              I did enjoy (most of) Hulk and X2..

                                                              On a related note, I watched the UK film The Decent and the Korean film Oldboy this week. Fresh ideas. Beautifully shot. No hollywood endings.

                                                                              it allows him to hear the local cops etc, and he can now see in infrared etc and he can also glide (well, he's still figuring that part out) using the suit too

It will be a love story and it will track the relationship as they encounter new conflicts that separate them. And hopefully their own will and love for each other will bring them back together in the piece. Harry will be a problem, but I'm not certain if Harry will become the Goblin or not."

                                                                                                                                                                          And real Spiderman fans will remember that 2 out of 3 "Venom origin" stories involved Peter Parker having the black suit (symbiote) first...and then it spreading to Eddie Brock.

                                                                                                                                                                          My guess says that Peter Parker picks up the symbiote...which gives him great new powers BUT also sends him on a mean streak. He gets addicted to the powers of the suit and has to struggle on whether to keep it or not. Once he gets rid of the symbiote and thinks its gone for good...at the end of the movie it shows up as disgraced journalist Eddie Brock and the battle begins. Venom won't show up till the end and I don't think the battle will be lost or won...expect him back in Spiderman 4.

                                                                                                                                                                              Did you realize that Mary Jane wasn't Peters High School crush???? She didn't come until after High School. So the producers and writers have already taken great liberties on the story line.

                                                                                                                                                                              I guarantee that they will use the Astronaut (J.J. Mary Janes husband) story line from the Cartoon...not that complicated.

Both characters were no comparison to Spidey's traditional villains. They should just go with the characters and storylines that made the comic book such a success for almost 50 years now.

Both characters were no comparison to Spidey's traditional villains. They should just go with the characters and storylines that made the comic book such a success for almost 50 years now.
                                                                                                                                                                                                      Fanboys and the like may want to see the original villans, but the masses want to see Venom. And Hollywood holds nothing sacred so they are going to go after whatever is going to bring in the top dollar.

                                                                                                                                                                                                      Oh and I wouldn't ever expect to see Carnage make a movie...but I will almost guarantee that Venom will either make a full appearance at the end of this movie (judging by the black suit on Spidey) or at least there will be a teaser at the end to suggest Venom for a part 4. But remember Raimi came into this as a Trilogy. He is going to make the best 3 movies that he can..and then worry about a 4th.
