UploadCafe.com is shutting down!

Got this email today...

Not much of a Happy Holidays message, huh? We're sorry to inform you that we'll be shutting down UploadCafe.com in the next couple of days. We've tried our best to get this thing off the ground over the past few months but it has taken everything we've got just to get things running. We've since discovered that to keep things running smoothly we would have to hire a slew of programmers to constantly modify the system any time one or more of the sites we submit to makes the slightest change. Unfortunately we simply don't have the resources to support such an endeavor.

We hate to see all this work go to waste so if you or anyone you know would be interested in taking over the project please contact [email protected]. Please, serious inquiries only. We've spent a ton of money and six months working on this so we would be looking for fair compensation for our work from a prospective buyer.

Sadly, that about wraps things up. Again, we truly apologize we were not able to keep this free service going but we appreciate your support!

I know of about 500 more clones that are closing, some are putzing thru 2 million a month and are on their last "donation" while seeking a buyer....

They simply make no revenue...

The idea is great and if done successfully would be a great tool, just not sure of all the programming intricacies they elude to that seem to prevent them from going forward.

ok there's 25 tube sites out there, (speaking generally)

ok i upload my 10 meg file

250 megs trannsferred for one person for free... lol
can you see why it's closing now? times that by 1000

By the tone of the email, I get the impression it was the maintenence, not the bandwidth that was taking up their costs.

everyone would use it....you simply don't have the skills, ambition, or man power to take care of such a project....there are dozens of large tube sites out there, all with changing web based API /packets etc.

you couldn't do it yourself if it was a full time job

now prove me wrong & make a free one for everybody.....

would you review each movie before it was uploaded, so you could keep the one account at each site?

i would imagine an account is made for each person in the database for each site... so basically me signing up would actually have an individual account made for each tube site uploaded to, and then when abused that account would get closed...

perhaps the captcha systems is what is halting the progress here??

they should sit down and make this a pay model... it has potential... ii mean if I could upload my video to 119 tube sites with one upload and save 8 hours time, would I not pay $10 bucks for this?

But there is the possibility that they were crafty.

The video could be loaded on their website server that is sharing the DB with another lan server that is connected to the internet thru a Time Warner cable account.

You make your own acount on those tube sites, and the you enter your account info into your uploadcafe account and then uploadcafe was supposed to upload the video on to those tube sites through your account own account on those sites.

If you've already got your own accounts, one not run roboform one time on each site & then you've basically got uploadcafe on your computer....

the problem is they simply tried to go after too many different TYPES of sites. If you were to do this with say the top 10 ADULT sites you'll do well. Sticking to a niche is the only decent way of doing something like this.

Supporting this for a handfull of top adult sites is on my list of things to do now.

No, I didn't because I pondered the thought of just doing it myself and didn't want to reveal the answer to the problem.

Explanation :

There are two type of programmers.

1. Those who make it work today
2. Those who make it work forever*
(disclaimer: "forever" means an acceptable long time)

The issue with this site is a lack of "artificial intelligence".

The basic working of the internet does not change very much and connecting to a server to upload involves a set standard as defined on w3.org

Uploadcafe hired type 1 programmers...end of story
