    Just saw Good Night and Good Luck

    Such a horrible day in London..really cold and sort of snowing and sort of raining. So, I decided to treat myself to a movie before work. Good Night And Good Luck only opened here last week and now with the exception of Capote that doesn't open until Friday I have seen all of the Best Picture nominations.

    I really enjoyed the film. I assume it will bore the pants off anyone who isn't interested in politics but I am a political junkie and have always been interested in that part of American political history. The use of black and white was very well done and for a film that mostly has one set it didn't feel too small.

    I am not sure which film I want to win best picture. I was waiting to see this before I said and I haven't seen Capote yet. I liked Brokeback and don't think it was the best film I ever saw but it may just be worthy of the award out of this grouping. If not than I would be happy to see Good Night and Good Luck to get it but I have a feeling it might be a bit to much of a niche audience (political and journalistic history lesson) to have enough appeal amongst voters.

    Btw if anybody likes tv news related movies don't forget about Broadcast News and the 1976 film Network.

      Have you seen Munich? That's the only nominee I've seen; although I want to see Capote at least before the award show. Munich was unbelievable.

          Yeah I saw Munich and enjoyed it but didn't think it was best picture level of good.

          Capote comes out Friday here..I setill need to see that and Walk The Line before Oscar night. Hard to see things in time sometimes because of UK release dates. A few in the acting cats (Transamerica) that don't come out here until after the awards.

                      I enjoyed Capote but don't think it should win. Philip Seymour Hoffman did an amazing job acting the part, though. And the story of Truman Capote is quite interesting all things considered.

                                          With the oscar voters Capote or Good Night and Good Luck both stand a very damn good chance.

                                          I am leaning towards Good Night and Good luck as best picture and Capote landing best Actor. More than likely a few other awards tossed in of course.

                                              I still think Brokeback is going to get Best Picture but if it doesn't I think Good Night and Good Luck might get it. Hollywood loves stories about the blacklist period since it hit their industry so hard.

                                              I want Jake to win best supporting actor. Beyond that It is a really open field this year. I know people complain that there aren't many blockbuster movies in there but for those of us that like serious films this is a good year.

                                                      Agreed though there are three films in the best picture running that would be good political messages this year. Good Night and Good Luck would certainly send a message.

                                                          I keep meaning to go see Good Night And Good luck - it's had pretty good reviews all around. I just saw Brokeback Mountain and it was stunning - really visually appealing and of course, it's message.

                                                                  I don't see a stiff rivalry in this years Oscar Best Picture Category. Brokeback Mountain getting all the fuzz, and all other films are blurred. I miss the times when voters were divided between Pulp Fiction vs. Forrest Gump, Titanic vs. LA Confidential, and Gladiator vs Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon among others.
