Well, honestly - I have to tell you I have traveled more than 20 countries in my life, and
I never felt so chained by regulations and rules as in the states.
From the time I boarded the plane, there was always someone behind me telling what I can and what I can't:
"switch off the mp3 player"
"don't take any photographs"
"move on"
And I took that seriously because I know that it's not good to hassle with the regulations in the States and I am not a kind of type that would care plus I was on a visit so I will not be trying to pull a high on anyone.
I actually like order very much, am more of a German nature - but it's anyway something I am not used to and I am not used to be bothered by anyone.
One thing I was really seriously aware off - never ever try to hassle with Police - I know this is the basic rule and I could end up real bad - I don't have issues with language, and even I do typos I was usually regarded as an Irishman or a UK guy while in US so they would not get mad at me because of this, but I knew that once this would happen - just shut the fuck up and talk to the point...
You know here - you will just have a friendly talk and if you did just something like speeding or bad parking - they don't give a shit and sometimes just let you go or give you the lowest fine if you are not behaving like a hero and they find you ok.
Noone ever cares about anything around here, noone will be bothering you unless you bother him - I don't mean that it's always good and especially the tourists misuse it a big time because they couldn't really shout / piss / woomit / get drunk publically in their place and especially the british tourists are the worst white trash they could ever import here..
What I found out is basically:
US is some of the best displays of the old school "Sugar and Lash" principles:
- you give the people the best customer support / they can refund everything many services for free or with bonuses etc. etc. so you will be happy the companies the government is SO CARING about your comfort
BUT
once you break the rules noone will give a damn and you will end up real bad and you will make sure everyone knows that this is not the way to go... Jail / fines / lawsuits - whatever..
