Stockton to be exact. It's not as bad as you think and it's not a long drive to the Ocean or the mountains. You can go to San Francisco, Carmel, Monterey, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, Reno.

Vegas and LA are only 50 minute flights.

Does the rep position require that the be local? I know of lots of reps looking for jobs. If it's not in-house clarify so it may get you more applications, hence giving you more choices/options

Example low-end top dollar would be $10K-$12K / month + moving expensives and a car, medium would be 12-14K and top-top dollar would be $16K-$20K and a company credit card

You can have them contact us, it wouldn't hurt. We are usually more cautious with telecommuters though cause they can't be managed as well and take more of our time communicating. So we like to see good results before we offer the same pay as inhouse.
