On another point Americans are pretty unaware of how dependent we are to foreigners.

Foreigners own over $11 Trillion of US based assets.

Foreigners own $2 Trillion of US Treasury notes which is about 40% of our government IOU's.

They own 25% of the Fortune 500 Corporate Bonds.

They own 14 Million acres of prime US Farm land.

The largest shareholder of one of the biggest banks in the US, CitiGroup is from Saudi Arabia.

CompUSA, one of the biggest computer retailers in the US, is owned by a Mexican billionaire.

You could go on and on.

If you're worried about the ports, you should be hysterical by the fact that if foreigners stopped buying US Treasury notes, which is what allows the US to spend more money than it takes in each year, (our $400 Billion of technically NSF checks LOL), the US would go belly up overnight.

      There are options.

      Congress could just print money.

The Federal Reserve could create $ by changing banking rules.

The assets for foreign countries could be nationalized. Now that would be popular.

Since the Bush family has such close ties to the Saudi's this really smells. Why are all the details classified? Time to let some light shine on the details of the whole mess.

As KRL points out, there are prolly enough votes to overturn a veto.

Seems to me that is high time to stop the trend KRL describes. We seem to be selling ourselves out for cheap gas. What really gets me is that we can't tap the oil in Alaska or build another nuclear power plant. Jimthefriend is sharing that sand he has his head in with a lot of Americans.

Frankly, I'm tired of this argument.

One could reasonably agrue that Airbus isn't a normal company and owned by the EU using those standards. The same goes for Boeing and the US government.

Should Congress pass legislation to prevent either from doing business in this country?

It dosent fucking matter if its a sale or a lease or a cooperative or a partnership. Its still stupid. Its still a waste. And its still unamerican. When so many people are out of work here, we should be looking for ways to keep jobs and money in this country instead of searching for ways to export both.

Maybe you missed some of the facts in the discussion?

You have any clue what goes on in Dubai now? Besides them building fancy Island resorts and indoor ski slopes?

Did you know that terrorist groups in South Africa smuggle out diamonds and Dubai's ports are one of the top destinations where they are then shipped out across the world and sold?

Did you know much of the drug money in the middle east is laundered through Dubai real estate deals? Which of course the middle east drug trade is mostly terrorist run and financed.

Did you know that Dubai port was the biggest destination for oil smuggled out of Iraq illegally?

Dubai may look pretty on the outside with it shinny buildings and it's US friendly royal family, however they suffer from the same issues of the rest of the middle east.

I'm not saying Dubai has any intentions of allowing this kind of activity in US ports, but if they can't even keep the smuggling out of their own ports, where it's obvious corruption in involved. Then how the hell can they be trusted to manage what's allowed in and out of our ports?
In November, you can vote for America's next president or its first dictator.

Wow -- thanks for the lessons on the UAE, honestly.

                :rollseyes

So you're really upset that they may hit the container trifecta, but weren't concerned about the first purchase? If they can't control their ports, how do you expect them protect our railways and highways?

                Or do you not care...
