I do not use laptop as desktop replacement, so performance doesn't matter a lot. And also sepcs I mentioned above are pretty good for reliable performance.
Rest is durability, I do not seek it either .. if a classy/stylish laptop can works for 1 year .. its all good for me.
I don't know if I am right on choosing a gift purely on the basis of my take about laptops.
I am following his requirements though ..
