Unfortunatly that attitude is widely accepted and has forced industries to look a new ways of distribution (e.g. itunes) which has been very successful. Theres no reason someone from this industry can't find a similar way to distribute content. Say Guba but using content liscensed from every producer and selling it for a cheaper individual price paying royalties back to the original producers? -

I agree that it's no different. The point is that many of us don't want ANY of them advertising on GFY. I see no difference between GUBA and someone that starts a site that allows members to post stolen passwords and charges them membership fees. Either way they are what I would consider the "enemy" of this industry.

Originally posted by ForkbeardLebodojo, glad to see you here. I'm looking forward to the relaunch and the new goodies.
Meanwhile, here's what I've been saying in all the hater threads, just because I enjoy being a contrarian, and because I despise ignorant libels:
Somebody's got to speak up for GUBA, since nobody here seems to understand it. I guess I'm a good somebody to speak up, since GUBA sends me a huge check every two weeks.
Long story short: Don't believe all these folks who slam GUBA. The "stolen content" rap is total bullshit; in the niches I promote, the *vast* majority of the content in the newsgroups is actually put there by the content owners to drive traffic to their websites.
Remember, GUBA is just a friendly interface to the paleolithic part of the internet. Usenet newsgroups, the uncensorable built-to-survive-nuclear-war part. GUBA sells no content and thus is in no position to steal any. It's just an easy way to get at the newsgroups for folks who aren't techie wizards.
I've had dinner with GUBA's head lawyer, and I'll tell you what: they have the legal shit covered. There's nothing illegal in what they are doing; if there were, some of the rich loudmouths here on GFY would have already sued them back to the stone age.
Now for the good part: As an affiliate, GUBA is simply awesome to deal with. GUBA has been very very good to me. Their recurring billings are particularly sweet -- they recur at much higher percentages than anything else I've ever promoted. As for service, they are always johnny-on-the-spot for me by email or phone whenever I have a question or issue.
Quality folks to deal with, great conversions, and the best rebills I've ever encountered. What's not to like?
My advice: Ignore the haters, and give GUBA a try.
that statement must have cost GUBA as much as the skin hereComment

they effectively have removed the harsh learning curve required to get what you want from Usenet. this allows more and more users to get "all they can eat" for a ridiculous price. 14.95 U.S. for access to as much "member leeched" stuff that they can watch in a month. and, god knows where its going after guba users download it. oh wait i know, p2p. since their users are not the most technically advanced computer people, many of the guba users for sure are avid p2pers and still think kazaa is the delivery method of choice for free stuff. ironically, the potential paysite member fits the same mold.
Lets not forget, it won't take much for affiliates that don't have the respect for content that we do, that will push them, and certainly will buy a membership to your sites, run a leecher, and upload your shit so guba can crawl it. there are alot of affiliates that don't care where their money comes from. they are all watching and not saying anything.
if you really put some thought into this, there is nothing good about this for content producers or legitimate affiliates. if i'm a surfer, why should i visit your tgp and click links to paysites if i can get it all somewhere for 14.95? honest affiliates, affiliates that actually care where their money comes from, and above all, producers of content need to take the offensive and do what they need to make sure their stuff is not in usenet. its a fairly manhour intensive thing, but in the long run, they will work with you and those harmelss "interfaces" do filter your stuff out for you.
if you don't take those steps then its not worth crying about it.
"LEGAL" is as deep as the perspective you take on it.Comment

So basically I could join 20 paysites, rip their members areas, then simply tell
them to contact me if they find anything of theirs. Should be easy, I'll join all the mega pass type sites with lots of bonus access. I'll even get screenshots of their tours etc so my members know exactly what they're getting. I see no difference in my model since I'll be hosting it all.

It was a laborious and daunting task to train them properly, however. We initially encountered conflicts-of-interest between their inherent religious background and the fact that they had to be intimately familiar with all of our porn content (bondage, fetish, watersport, CBT...all the fun stuff).
But as their training regiment progressed over the course of several weeks, they soon grew quite familiar and accustomed to the content - and in fact the majority actually became quite smitten with it all.
It costs us $30/day to pay all the new staff, but we strongly feel its a worthy investment to protect ourselves.Comment

Ok smartypants. Guba is selling access to an interface. You are correct Sir. Let's have a drink at the Forum.. dumbassOriginally posted by ForkbeardI'm one of GUBA's top affiliates, and I'm an opinionated son of a bitch who's hard to intimidate.
I'm calling people ignorant haters because they are acting like it. GUBA's not selling memberships to anybody's content, they're selling an interface. And you haters are misplacing your anger.
I've got a lot of respect for Steve Lightspeed, but I think his hatred would be misplaced if he directed it at GUBA. GUBA's an interface or a web service, like Google Image Search or the Usenet News Reader built into Outlook Express. I don't see people in here flaming Google or Microsoft, and I don't think flaming GUBA makes any more sense than that would.
If you've got problems with content thieves, then chase the content thieves. From what I can see, GUBA will do everything in its power to help you. And if that's not good enough?
If I have a problem with content thieves then I need to chase the thiefs? It's the thiefs that knocked on your (guba) door and offered it to you and you took it. What does that make you?

Yes, I know this is a daunting task and would be virtually impossible to monitor. "We" as a whole need to stop trades with sites that promote GUBA, sponsors need to remove affiliates if they are reported/found to be promoting GUBA, etc.

invertiga, one of the differences between Guba and an offline news reader is the "who does the work". Once you download material onto your own PC, you can pretty much anything you want with it yourself. Having unfiltered newgroup access, downloading all the material, and then extracting the images on your own PC is pretty much a protected act because there is no resale and no remarketting.
Now, if you took those extracted images, burn them onto CDs, and resold them on EBAY, you would be violating copyright reselling images you don't have the rights to.
If you took those extracted images and opened a paysite, you would be shut down in days.
So, now, all Guba is doing is skipping the "burning it onto a CD" or "opening a new paysite". They just extract the images and content and resell access to the filtered end results. If you or I resold it in any manner ourselves, we would be buried under lawsuits and paper so far we wouldn't be able to breathe.
Splitting hairs and saying "but it is usenet" wouldn't excuse me, and it doesn't excuse them.

If you or I resold it in any manner ourselves, we would be buried under lawsuits and paper so far we wouldn't be able to breathe.
Splitting hairs and saying "but it is usenet" wouldn't excuse me, and it doesn't excuse them.

When you say haters, I think you mean "producers." Your apologies should be to the photographers, webmasters, and models you use w/o compensation to earn money for yourself and affiliates. The affiliate promoters probably love you, but the producers feel about you a whole different way. Try paying a model, shooting the photos/video, and then have someone steal it and get paid for it. You may be a hater too.Originally posted by lesbodojoOhh I feel naked...
Our apologies for any misunderstandings. The skin was deployed a wee bit too early. Eric and I talked and we're relaunching the skin in March. We're not taking the skin down becuase there are a few noisy haters. I want to make that VERY clear.
The REAL launch of the skin will have promotions, launch a second payout option, reveal the relaunch of GUBA, announce exciting partnrships, and more!
Stay tuned, friends. There are lots of exciting bells and whistles on the way from GUBA.com!
