And you earn your huge paycheck by illegal means of contributory copyright infringement.

I hope you're saving up your huge paychecks, because some day you're going to repost some GUBA content on one of your sites and someone is going to come along and sue your skanky, scummy ass for contributory copyright infringement.

We'll see who is laughing then, won't we?

I wonder if those "important sponsors" know you promote the scum known as GUBA? If you were one of my affiliates I'd yank your account faster than you could brag about being the top earner.

That's a legal opinion with which I happen to disagree. In fact, for reasons I've already stated, it's a pretty boneheaded legal opinion. I believe the word I've used most often today to characterize that legal opinion is "ignorant". Try talking to a good internet lawyer before you bloviate.

Indeed they do know, in several cases. I'm a valuable affiliate in my niches, nobody's going to yank my accounts for trivial reasons.

don't know you - but by aiding thieves you portray the sleazy, scum sucking, bottom feeding, maggot of a "pornographer" that a lot of us try not to be known as.

Nothing about your plug for Guba was professional, it was your change to spam your ref. code across multiple threads. Anyhow, you've been called out enough in this thread already, really there's nothing left to say - nobody changed their mind from reading your ill-advised post.

Which might be a reasonable criticism -- except for the little flaw in your logic that arises from the fact that the GUBA folks are not thieves.

It's really funny how you folks keep trying to insult me based on an argument you haven't won yet. Your insults beg the very question we are discussing.

I'm sure all the "Goober" affiliates are just shaking in their boots and wishing they could post their opinions which coincide with yours.

This is an idiot program. Whoever thought they could launch a paysite dedicated to doing nothing except for stealing other's content is an idiot.

Seriously. Unbelievably stupid. Why not just wave a huge flag saying "Hi, I'm a copyright infringer... please sue me!"

damn straight.... seems as though they have given themselves full permission to trample on copyrights, no matter what.

Maybe they decided that if they've been able to get away with using stolen content for this long, who's going to give a shit if they start encoding the stolen videos that get put up.

I hope Forkbeard and Tempest do not choke on the food or injure themselves in the homes and automobiles they bought using the money they were paid by GUBA.

What you call "professionalism" is lost on people like yourself and Guba. After branding us all "stupid communists" - you've lost any shred of professionalism you might have earned.

Don't attempt to take the high road here by labeling us all unprofessional. The outfit you support are thieves, plain and simple. And that doesn't merit the courtesy of what you laughingly call a "professional" attitude in response.

yea, that was a pretty sorry comment.

So, i can start a paysite, use a program to suck up content from resources where i know stolen content is placed, and then have a policy telling other companies, if they find their stolen content on my site, ill remove it, and sorry bout that?

                              WOW~~~!!

Someone should go in there and start listing company names of the content they find in there.

I don't think you'll find the quoted phrase in any of my posts; you've distorted ad conflated several of my comments.

I've said that some of the haters are making themselves "look stupid" -- which is very different from calling anyone in particular (or any particular group) stupid.

And as for "communist", you're the only one I applied that word to, after you suggested that I undermined my credibility by trying to make a profit from my
GUBA advocacy. And I merely asked "what are you, a communist?" in an ironic fashion. It was humor, though it was clearly lost on you.

You're making yourself look bad by mischaracterizing my participation here. But hey, at least you've stepped up from posting beastiality/scat fetish pictures.

I don't promote Guba and I don't support theft. Where have I ever said either?? One of my points is that a lot of programs turn a blind eye to affiliates using stolen content as long as it's making them money. I had one program (when I bitched about not being able to get content to promote them) tell me how their top affiliate (using stolen content in violation of the TOS) had made almost $1 million dollars over the years promoting them. So many people are defending the same programs that don't really care.

Exactly. Even the software industry (MS etc.) including game companies (EA etc.) have an organization that goes after all the blackmarket versions of their products, raiding the markets in china, singapore and the like. But no one really cares enough in this business to be pro-active. It's the quick buck and milking it for as long as it lasts.

I don't see why everyone's freakin out; web-browser based front ends for newsgroups isn't new. Guba is one of hundreds, maybe thousands that have existed for probley 10yrs (pictureview has been around 9yrs).

Infact if there is anyone to blame its the content producers. If the content wasn't distributed in a format that was so easily copied and distributed then these services wouldn't exist; or wouldn't exist in the same numbers. Perhaps the industry should be working on new ways to distribute content through secure channels to the proper paying individuals; hard task; but sure beats giving people your content and making it untraceable and ultimatly uncontrolable.

Some may think coming up with a new distribution channel would cost too much? Do the sum's, come up with a magic number you think Guba & co costs you per year; then come up with a number of what it'd cost you to secure your content? I'm guessing even if the numbers were on your side to secure your content the majority of companies are too lazy to use some initiative.

so the copyright holders are to blame?

brilliant logic. I spend $20k filming a reality series and it's somehow my fault that it gets pilfered onto newsgroups.

no. but surely if you released your content onto a new format, lets take blu-ray (presume its available for arguement sake); it currently can't be copied due to copy-protection, piracy doesn't exist there, yet. therefore no one can steal it right... instead you release it in mpg and wmv's where a person with the brain of a 5yr old can copy and paste it onto any site on the internet in 1min.

a secure distribution format would also have additional benifits if you were a content producer; you could tell how saturated the market is; you could charge more accordingly because MR X can't get it anywhere else.

I'm not supporting the stealing of content; i'm trying to make a point that content producers and distributions lack control. Infact they have almost zero control and i think they have them selves to blame.

All I would have to do is play the video on the screen (just like I'm watching it) and have a program running in the background that records everything that comes across my screen (screen capture). Then I would save it in .wmv or .avi or whatever I felt like. At that point I have just rendered this state-of-the-art copy-protection completely useless. That's the problem, we're not just dealing with straight hardware devices anymore; no matter what comes out, someone will find a way to sidestep it.

Should we go after giganews too, or the people who create news clients?

Banks manage to keep our shit under lock and key and provide an interface to exchange money between accounts and people. With the right resources surly the same environment could be created of distibution of media formats over the internet.
I'm sure most content producers are trying to stop them but how? The technology available isn't good enough to stop content being pirated.

If I wanted to protect my house from burglarly I can put in a basic security system or make it Fort Knox. The first will deter most thieves and it's affordable. The second will stop 99.99999% but will cost a fortune - money I don't have and even if so, it's not practical.

Same way with content producers - they don't have a bottomless pit of money and technology. Theft of their content is going to happen almost regardless of what they do, but that doesn't justify people profiting off the stolen content by saying "oh well, you didn't protect it well enough. Too bad".
