Sweden beating the USA is no big deal, they should be the USA. The two teams are pretty even up front (esp. with Forsberg out) but the Swedes have a small edge on D and in goal.
My biggest shock so far has been Switzerland's stealing two games in their group, getting a win over the Czechs and Canadians. I figured their goaltending would be 3rd best in the tourney, but the two teams I figured had better goaltending are the teams they beat. Gerber and Aebischer have been sensational... and if that carries over to the NHL, the Cup Final will be Carolina vs. Colorado... (which, if you think about it, would be an entertaining Stanley Cup final...)
I saw some of it.. I was wondering when Kovalchuk would wake up... he did with a vengance today. If the Russians are firing on all cylinders offensively, they'll be tough to beat in the knockout phase, esp. if they can get an opponent to try to skate with them. Esp. vulnerable will be the USA and Canada with their ancient backlines.
While I don't think the Russians will get 9 aganst the USA on Tuesday, a 7-3 win over the USA wouldn't surprise me.
As for what went wrong with the USA, it's obvious. When you're the oldest team in a tourney where you play 4 games in 5 days after flying half way around the world and have only one practice as a team, you're not going to do very well...they're getting by strictly on talent, and even then they're just getting by...
yes, but we have more f15's than sweden so there!! lol
That?s because Typhoons and Mirages are superior to F-16.. pretty much every other 4th gen jet is. Su-47 makes F-16 looks like Vanilla Ice or rap circuit?
