It's not one or the other but generally speaking, there is probably a higher percentage of married couples who are "happier" than single people. Why? Because they have dual income or the potential for it, which is security. They have companionship. They have a sex partner that's always present.
These are generalizations and thus are not always true. There are many reasons why people do not want to be in relationsihps and many relationships dissolve. But if I was a betting man, I'd say there are more "happier" people who are married than who are not.
