Can the US congress/senate throw out the current government?

Up here in Canada, if the government in power has proven itself to be incompetent etc. a vote of non-confidence can be put to the floor and if there's enough votes, the government is supposed to disolve parliament and call an election (that's what happened this last time). Anything like that in the US?

My understanding is that impeachment is for those that may have commmited a criminal act. I'm just talking about if they're incompetent.

Your system is based on on a european model. We don't do that here. In the US if you vote an idiot in then you are stuck with him until his term is up. Which you would think would cause voters to be more careful in who the elect, but alas this doesn't seem to be the case. Besides Congress is controlled by the republicans so why would they vote to throw Bush out? And they certainly aren't going to throw themselves out.

I thought Bush got rid of that a long time ago
Or maybe it's hidden somewhere and no one noticed that he did

Congress IS the current government. The president and his cabinet are just a very small part of it. We have a totally different system here.
In fact, especially in domestic issues, the senate has much more power than the president does.

Are you all sure you don't have something like we do? You have to remember that we often have 3+ parties in parliament. So when you have more than just 2, you have situations where 2 could vote against the 3rd. So if you had 3 parties in the US (or enough votes as even some republicans would vote against Bush if they truly though he was screwing the country), could something like what occasionally happens here happen there?

Well in a country where we are presented with two choices and have to pick one, what if there is no better man? How can you blame us for not being careful in who we elect? We have 2 choices, if they are both fuckheads, they are both fuckheads and one of them has to be elected. Kerry would have been no better than Bush except possibly in world view terms of being liked a little more.

Kerry would have been incompetent as well, the American public saw that and didnt want to change from one moron to another in the middle of a war.

Only difference one has been in a war and knows what it's like to be shot at, and the other was doing everything to keep from going.

Now which would you rather have leading a country during war?

                              exactly.

kind of difficult to pick a non-idiot when thats all there is to choose from.

I can't even watch another hearing I'm so aggravated with all these politicians in both parties.

This is the problem when you have one party in control of the executive branch, the senate and the house at the same time. Too much power and everything gets lopsided to just the one groups agenda.

Its better when you have one party in the exec office, and the other controlling the congress. Then at least its harder for shannanigans to go down based on agendas of the extreme left or right.

So much money is being wasted on bogus projects its absolutely frightening. Billions of dollars of federal contracts are being awarded to companies connected to the white house. And the scary part no matter how much comes out, they keep on doing it cause there is no one to stop them.

I say toss out this two party system. Set term limits for the supreme court. Term limits for congress. Set the presidency to just one term of 4 years and get new fresh faces in more often. Its the ability for these politicians to be in power for so much time that is the root cause of all the problems.

                                    Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
