I've had surgery on both ulnar (that's the elbow right?) sucks. best to ya and take care.. -bmbwell, this is what happens when your nerves happen to be closer to the surface of the skin than everyone else. i suffered a nerve compression injury that resulted in total hand paralysis (all 3 main hand nerve groups - median, ulnar, and radial) from the rope involved in a shibari rope bondage full suspension (in the air, crank-lifted up from the ceiling).
physical therapy and occupational therapy 2x/week and hand & finger exercises to retrain them how to work 4x/day. depending on where the nerve bundle was compressed (which we won't know until after the electroshock study in 6 weeks) it will take anywhere from 2 months to 2 years to regain complete function of my hand.
currently i can't drive, bathe, groom or feed myself half of the time and require help - though this nifty new splint is helping isolate my fingers so i can relearn typing again. i haven't decided yet if i should turn it into a musical instrument or a weapon.
please be patient with me if i do not respond to your IM's & e-mails as quickly as you or i would like, it's a bit tough relearning how to use my hand all over again.

it was a consensual private session amongst friends. this wasn't for content. so, no, i'm not suing anyone and they aren't paying any bills. i wouldn't even really call it a bondage accident, i'd call it a nerve accident. everything was done properly with the shibari and the suspension, there was no pain or pinching or loss of sensation that i could feel during the 15 minutes or so that i was in the air. it wasn't until i came down and was untied that i realised i had no feeling in my left hand. we all thought it would come back momentarily but it didn't so i went to the doctor when i got back home.
whenever i play i play RACK (Risk Aware Consensual Kink) and/or SSC (Safe Sane & Consensual) and am communicative with the person topping me. i would have told him if there were any problems while it was happening and i think the other 7 people there would have too. it's just unfortunate that my nerves are more sensitive to this than most others, although it's something that's happened to many people (hence being aware of the risk).

i definitely have nerve damage at that tendon, it's like i can't even will my hand to lift up from the stereotypical "gay man" hand flop position. *frustrating!* how long did you have to use this device, if you don't mind me asking. i've had plenty of hard casts, never anything like this though. i love that i can take it off and lotion my skin under there - this thing dries it out and makes it look like a snake - ick!

yeah that's probably the most frustrating part, but the individual finger splints help me be able to use 2-3 fingers still on my left hand with then tension that pulls them back up. apparently th nerve that goes to the thumb is the hardest to heal/rehabilitate, which is super annoying since that's what makes having a human hand so helpful. :P
