The Qur'an is the word of Allah, carried to man by the Prophet Muhammed.

There is another body of writings that describes behaviours, acts and speakings of the prophet, that were not direct commands from Allah. These are more a long the lines of "The Prophet Muhammed wrote always with his left hand, and thus we can assume the righteous of god will write always with their left hand.". Is this true? What is this body of writings called?
my understanding was that he didn't write anything... the qur'an was written decades after his death based on the oral traditions of what he supposedly preached.
