I have a bad habit of when I'm done with a relationship, I'm done. I can be rather cold about it too. The woman I dated for three years before I met my wife I had dated for three years and we about to get engaged. We had a fight about something I've long since forgotten about, and I told her "If you walk out that door you'll never be allowed back in my life". She walked out; I walked out of the relationship but she kept trying to patch things up.
You put your foot down early on in the relationship, say "this is the way it is", and if you don't like it you get the boot. I did this with every relationship I ever had and the moment I wasn't happy I kicked her ass to the damn curb - no matter what was invested in the relationship.
My then girlfriend picked up on this. Thirteen years later, eight years of marriage, and one child.... we've had one argument and I'm still getting laid every day.
