    It is pretty spot on anatomy wise. There isn't just a crater in his face, you can see the maxilla and mandible split and blown out to the sides.

                    impact will blow an eyeball out, they just aren't fixed like that. even an close range explosion like that i'm sure would have blown the entire eyeball out of the socket before it would have cleanly sheered it in half leaving one half perfectly in place. mind you i'm not a doctor, and i've never seen a head specifically blown up, i'm still pretty positive this is not real. just because it's bloody, disgusting, and looks fairly real, doesn't mean it is. it just seems a little unrealistic in the way it looks, and the fact that there's no way he'd be alert of to support his own head after having blown his own face clear off. a large portion of the death/gore images online are actually just well done fakes, this one is no different i'd imagine...

                        My friend had to shoot a deer in the head point blank with a 50 calibre muzzeloader because it was still kicking from the first shot. It never blew any eyeballs out. It had smoke coming out of it's mouth. Pretty creepy stuff.

                                                    point blank won't do anything but punch a hole straight through. bullets "mushroom" as controlled by a copper jacketting surrounding the lead tip. i'm not an expert on ballistics, but this is the basic concept. a good ammunition will mushroom on impact and carry enough velocity to still penetrate and make the kill. this is why and entry wound is typically the diameter of a pencil, while exit wounds can range anywhere from the size of a fastball to blowing the entire other side of the animal clear out, depending on the range you're shooting at and the caliber of the rifle you're shooting.

                                                    believe me, you skullcap a deer with a big bore rifle like .308 at 50-100 yards you're gonna blow that fucking head to pieces. or at the very least lift the top right off it.

                                                    in the end, there's just no way any of us can know if the pic is real or not. to me the eyes just don't look right. looks much more like some sort of latex prosthetic fx crew work to me.

                                                        Ya, but this is supposedly a shotgun blast. you don't think a 12 gauge under the chin would blow his face clean off? I'm thinking that would be a pretty good possibility. And there is also the potential that there was massive amounts of tissue hanging there and they had to cut it off before the picture was taken.

                                                        I also know a cop that was unfortunate enough to be come across a suicide by shotgun scene like this, where the person didn't die instantly from the blast. He said he was doing "curlies" around the floor and they basically had to sit back and watch him spin until the ambulance showed up (a curly is the old technique that Curly used to pull in the three stooges on the ground.) he told me his face was blown clean off but the brain was undamaged since the person didn't point the gun at the proper angle.

                                                            oh any shotgun blast to the face like that would blow his face clear off, no doubt. but the clean cut of the eyes just doesn't seem right to me at all. for such a clean cut to occur on both eyes, and to have the remaining half eyeball stay in such perfect positioning in the socket doesn't seem too likely to me. i'm not a doctor though, so there's a chance i'm wrong, but i don't THINK so.

                                                            i'll dismiss the cutting theory quickly though. i've done a dissection on an eyeball before. making a clean cut through that tissue even with a scalpel isn't the easiest thing to do, it's much tougher than flesh. if the eyes were too far gone, they simply would have removed the whole thing.

                                                            i'm not sure why i've taken such an interest in arguing the authenticity of this pic. haha.

                                                                                On snopes they said they might have forced him to sit up in that position to keep the blood from drowning him. You can't see everything in that picture so who knows how they have him propped up, etc.

                                                                                            I got a few tidbits of background on it, I first saw it on Rotten.com years ago. It was one of a series, and in a few of the other pictures it was obvious he was deceased and his head was being held up. The story behind it was he went over the handlebars on his motorcycle, which does fit. Anyone that's stood near a shotgun (or any other gun) at the muzzle end when it's gone off will get powder burns, and he doesn't have any. I've seen muzzle burns melt parts of duck blinds so they certainly would leave heavy burn marks on the skin at that range.

                                                                                                    wtf are you talking about? I don't see any cuts to the eyeballs. I've dissected eyes. There is no way these eyes are "cut". I don't get what you're talking about. His right eye looks totally intact and drooping a bit with his right cheek dropped and his left eye is partially covered by his eyelid which is all fucked up. I saw this many MANY years ago on rotten.com and believe it's legit. The eyes look exactly how i'd expect them to look with the structure of the face all fucked up. Not only that, I highly, HIGHLY doubt it's photoshopped. People that say that tend not to even know how to use the program and really back then.. with PS3 or whatever that didn't even have layers. heh. good luck. And it's better than virtually any special fx prop i've seen, definately not the work of students.

                                                                                                    That said.. anything can be faked with enough skill time and effort, but it's not naive at all to believe it's real, you just don't have to be the obligatory person that jumps into every single little thread where anything even slightly implausible is posted yelling "fake".
