    Can we, as webmasters, create legislation and be taken seriously?

    Debate then Legislate

    If so, I'd like to make it "unethical" and illegal to take over a surfers web browser options to trap a surfer with endless pop up chains. Since they force you to close your window to escape it and then it opens other windows, how is it different than viruses that make your pc do things involuntarily? Isn't the fact that it changes your browser request the same as a virus changing your pc settings?

      Since we can't police ourselves, the day will unfortunately come when the government (at least in the U.S.) will do it for us.

          they will have to. we give them no choice. ..and as a webmaster with some CELEB sites... I really hate that fact.

              yea, and then the politicians will tag on 10 other things to it (some perhaps good, others not so great)... and we'll be stuck with 10 new profit killing laws we have to obide by...

                  I don't support stuff like that, but they could make popups illegal or perhaps make it easier to charge back credit card purchases, or maybe make it illegal to use geo targetted ads because of some bullshit privacy reasons, or dozen other things that would hurt profitability of running online businesses...
