LOL, Sagi, I think this post just put you at the top of the smartest men's list! LOL
I couldn't help posting a thread like this... gender bias I don't think is cool. never did, dealt with the glass ceiling way too much in mainstream.
Gender bias is huge in this industry. Women are barely represented here, and most of those are "content" who know very little about the industry itself. There's also a huge double standard in our industry. Men sleep around and it's perfectly acceptable but when a woman sleeps with someone she's quickly branded with terms I'd rather not use in this thread.
I created my thread after seeing a woman I thought was smart get bashed for no reason in another thread and it reminded me that there are in fact smart women in this industry. Also note your name was mentioned in that thread a number of times.
As for the smartest men in this business, well, I think most of us got to where we are at today not because of what we know or what we learned, but being in the right place at the right time.
Roc, no offense taken on anything...just stating the obvious that you did, just in a different way.
on another note...
a late night conversation last week resulted in this analogy...
on a chess board, you would think the king is the most powerful piece. But it is the Queen who moves and protects the King. So in theory, the King could be powerless without the Queen watching his back. She goes to battle to save his life.

And you can also win even with the queen dead, not the king ;)

A game of chess can easily be won without the Queen. That is an odd analogy. Sure, the Queen has the most diverse moving abilities, but the teamwork of the other pieces along with proper placement of the King is what wins a game of chess.

I sure hope you didn't think too hard when coming up with this. LOL
The Knight is one of the more interesting, yet underused chess pieces. If you aren't watching your opponent closely, you can really get blindsided easily.
Ok, enough about chess!

actually... believe it or not it was a MAN who said this analogy and I was the one arguing that at the end of it all the King who is the most powerful piece regardless of who does the footwork. Without the King, the game is over.
I found it interesting a man gave credit to the queen. so much for a 4am conversation LOL.
and yes, if the pawn goes all the way, the queen can be replaced, but she still gave her first life for the king.
anyway... I am King and Queen of my life so all good
There's always a different story. Some people could be doctors, lawyers, memorize entire encylopedia sets, become NASA rocket scientists... all that and still be unable to manage money properly.
Sometimes, there's more than a single storyline to the life of a person.
The subject of this thread is "smartest men in the industry", which refers to the smartest man with industry knowledge. A good way of gauging that is by how much money he makes, how much money he has made, or how much money he will make. How else do you propose that be measured?

Who is smarter, the man who works day and night in this industry, amassing a vast amount of wealth until he finally dies at 50 from a heart attack, or the man who works in this industry spending just enough time on it to make a nice living, so that he is at liberty to spend the most part of his time enjoying life?
the only way to measure is by how much money they have made
that is unfortunately not true
there are average intelligent ;) people who entered this biz in 1998 and worked very hard because they had a very huge desire to succeed for some particular reason
and there are far smarter people who entered it 5 years later seeking just an easy income or part time job they can do from their home, without even thinking that they want to be Millionaires

Neither. The smart ones are those who accumulate quite a pile of money while barely ever working. I know a bunch of 'em. Spending "just enough time" is only going to last you "so long". Not being prepared isn't very smart. Of course I also know plenty of guys who love to work and spend every minute doing it, regardless of whether or not they "need to".
You see... calling someone smart just because they "make money" is as stupid as calling someone smart just because they "do what they want". Smart is totally objective, obviously my view of being smart is totally opposite of yours so there are going to be different answers.
Oh, and then there's the guys who spend all their time working, never make a penny, never enjoy life, and die early. We would probably both agree thats pretty stupid, haha. I know them too.

Napolean - He's the best Windows and web programmer I have known in all my years in this industry. I'm not biased at all!
He does everything from marketing to encryption but doesn't let his talents and success go to his head. After all is said and done, he's still humble and sensible enough to know the truly important things in life, which to me makes someone smarter than those that feel the need to use, abuse, and lie their way to the top.

Although I mostly agree with you, I still believe that in the end, the only thing that's really "smart" is to shape your life the way you want it to be, that is, enjoying your life and doing what you want. Of course, by enjoying life and doing what you want, I am not just talking about the short term, nor just about hedonistic pleasures.
But I agree with you, what living a good life is is different in everyone's view, and so, being smart is in a way different for everyone.
Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'Press On' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.

Interesting that this question was never asked in the smartest women thread. It appeared to be assumed that the most motivated/busiest/accomplished/experienced/reputable women were listed as "smartest." Suddenly we're judging the men only by their money earning potential.
Interesting, non?
So women only have to put in a good effort, but men have to bring home the buck to be respected?
