AEBN and min. $100 payouts - opinions please

So we're sittin' here looking at $99 in AEBN sales - missing their $100 payout by a fucking dollar.

Which gets us thinking...how many other webmasters experience similiar situations? And how much interest does AEBN earn each month on withheld revenues that don't tally to $100?

We've been with AEBN for a few years and made a few bucks, nothing too impressive...just enough to keep them around a while.

But lately - with this new $100 min. payout and the fact that we've spotted several other programs that offer a higher payout percentages and lower minimum payouts...we're startin' to think whether AEBN is worth keepin' around any longer.

    Anyone else have any opinions?

Or anyone from AEBN want to step in here and discuss? Would you be willing to lower the minimum payout in order to keep us as webmaster clients?

I don't much care for high minimum payouts. I've got hundreds of dollars scattered all over the place that I'll never see.

I keep them around because of the insane selection they have for my members, no one that I have found can come close for their selection of VOD

I see what you mean about the $100 though, I think minimum payouts that high are horrible, and the back of my head always thinks it is a way to keep money for those surfers that can't gety to $100, because there has to be a ton of them

Higher accounting costs is just bs excuse, the real reason is they get a LOT of unclaimed money this way... with even a pretty small sponsor, the amount of unclaimed funds can add up to many thousands of dollars...

That's exactly the way I'm thinking about it lately. No doubt they've crunched the numbers and realized the profit margin to be had to boosting the min. payout.

To be fair, AEBN have always been good folks to deal with over the years, especially Erin Burns who's been our contact all along.

But unless they can make offers to lower the payout minimums...we're undoubtedly gonna consider going elsewhere for our vid feeds - even if it means an overall lower selection and variety.

We could use the $100 (oops...$99) ourselves more than AEBN can use the interest they're undoubtedly earning on it.

I think I was 70 cents from getting my Aebn check in December..it burned my ass.

What was suggested elsewhere is those programs that have the minumum $100 payout should pay out at the end of the year whatever the amount is that is sitting in everyones account thus starting the slate clean for the next year ...as I recall only one program did this ..

Honestly, if you can't make $100 with a sponsor, why promote them?

                        I don't like the $100 minimum.

I have mixed feelings about AEBN. They've got a ton of VODs, they've now got a ton of FHGs, all of which are fantastic for promoting. But over the years I had built up several thousand "members", but I still didn't always get the $100 min a month. It's like the guys sign up to see the free movie and then never buy. I've had to restart and am up to 60 members now but the way things are going, it's going to be a few more months before I reach the minimum payout.

Had you read the first post, you'd have understood:

The terms changed AFTER we signed up years ago. They are no longer the terms we originally agreed to.

Perhaps you find it acceptable when others hold on to your sales revenues and earn interest. I don't.

Its hardly "crying" - its called business...Mr. Big Serious Webmaster.

When we originally signed on with them, they were one of the best games in town with the largest variety available. Our sites don't specialize in video and aren't known for that - primarily only the photography. The video module was added simply to round out the variety to our members. We never relied on video sales for anything substantial.

Some months we do far in excess of merely $99 in sales. Just so happened that's all they were this month.

Many webmasters push many different sponsors, a few single girl sites, a few paysite sponsors, a few sextoys, a few cams or dating, a one or 2 VOD, etc, overall, it's not uncommon for someone to push 20-30 different sponsors... In a setup like this, each of these sponsors get a few signups per week, and so you often end up missing a minimum payout by a few bucks... So just because someone can't hit $100 per pay period doesn't mean they are not a serious webmaster...

That is the excuse? Sounds like bullshit to me since having all those outstanding balances only increases the workload of the accounting department.

It would be a lot easier to have no mimimums (although not really practical).

They had better have hundreds of thousands in outstanding balances then, because the interest is pretty minimal.

Hey man. It totally sucks and while AEBN is a good company this high minimum can be an issue. You should try out topbucks.com VOD and they only have a $50 minimum payout

It's not really just the interest... many of those minimum payouts are NEVER claimed, so it's like free money for the sponsor... someone tries a sponsor, sends 2 sales, and then realizes the conversions suck... he stops promoting the sponsor, and now the program owner is left with 2 sales that he never has to pay anything for...

Of course not. That's not the point.

After 7 years in the biz - sometimes I grow tired of everyone else's fucking hands in my pocket. Every month seems to be a new issue. Whether its being late with revenue payments, increasing min. payouts, tacking on unsubstantiated 'administrative' fees (fuck off Visa/MC).

Everyone else seems to be making demands - why the hell shouldn't I be standing up in defense of what I've earned and questioning it?

Its the principle of the issue. Its OUR money.

With all due respect (and the fact I DID invite opinions here)...but I totally fail to understand why someone from a webmaster perspective defends the practice of high minimum payouts.

I'm venting (nothing personal, of course).

Ok, I can agree with you from a webmasters view that having a $100 minimum payout is no +.....but also as a adult webmaster I just dont give a fuck if a sponsor that I use have $100 min payout, I mean how often do they payout? 1 time a month? If you aint making more than 100 bucks a month with that sponsor you either need to pump up the traffic or just wait another month for the check, why you didnt get 1 this month was because you didnt promote them enough to get your payout.

This thread would make more sense if they pay out once a week and you just promote them as a side sponsor or something.

I have about 30 sponsors that I promote, each paying me about $100 a month, give or take a few bucks....what do you suggest then?

I agree with the carrying over thing though, just wait and get the next check, this months money will be in there...LOL

Sure if you have that many sponsors that you promote it could be troublesome. But I doubt all those 30 have $100 min payout no? Maybe 3-4-5 have? Concentrate on putting a little extra effort to them to always push it over the 100 per month......

No, the reason we didn't "get 1 this month" is because they changed the terms of what we originally agreed upon.

Had they stated years ago when we signed up that they maintained a high $100 min. payout, we likely wouldn't have considered adding them to our sites. The majority of our other affiliates either have no min. payouts and simply pay the balance owing each month...or else its only around $25.

We're first and foremost a production company ourselves. The primary function of our websites is to showcase our own original content. We don't spend time promoting others. As basically a one-man band production company...I simply haven't the time to actively promote a 3rd-party sponsor.

Our only involvement is having their video module as an 'added feature' on our websites - that is all.

But again, this is not the point.

The point is...when we generate sales for someone - we expect to get paid what is owing in a timely fashion.

In the real world - do you know what happens when an account is past due for more than 30 days? Interest is charged.

But with this issue...not only can we not charge AEBN interest, but they potentially can collect interest themselves on those unpaid revenues.

And Woj also raises good points as well concerning webmasters who dump their program after a few sales when they realize conversions aren't what they had hoped for. Those sales would never have to be paid out and are basically free money for AEBN.

Its a win-win for them...and we're left waiting 60 days for OUR money.

Its true. Im not defending $100 min payouts, IMO $25 or max $50 is ok. All I mean is that for most webmasters a $100 min payout is no major problem. But ofcourse in this case the webmaster should be favored and I totally agree to that there is no reason at all for a sponsor to have $100 min payout.

AEBN is a top notch company and may work something out with you.

I quite agree that AEBN's a good company - and we've always had good affiliations with them over the years. They run a good program.

Its just this recent decision to drastically increase the min. payout that we have objections to.

Hopefully they'll see things from our perspective and work something out to everyone's satisfaction.

I have money rolling over infinitely at 3 or 4 sponsors too. Plus lost money to globill and ibill that I'll never see.

I'd prefer a quarterly payout anyday for each of those 3 or 4 sponsors. Get it off their books at a set time, and not have silly little monies floating around on my end.

I could divert traffic to reach the minimums on all 3 or 4, but I dont want to screw with whats working either just for that.

sometimes a sponsor just converts bad and you want to bail out, collect your 50 bucks and be done with them. i contacted a sponsor asking to "cash out" on my account, since i wont be promoting them any more.. and no response.

Almost every page I have has secondary spots which can earn a trickle of income from "related" sponsors, more from experience than I would likely earn by repeating the same type of sponsor I promote in the best positions on such pages. But often the sponsors concerned aren't ones I would want to promote more actively just to reach their minimum payout level every month.

Hosted galleries in particular mean small amounts of money lying around. I prefer to keep a good mix of galleries and sponsors rather keep exposing my visitors over and over to the same small group, but the result is inevitably a bunch of missed minimums.

Apart from that, I see high minimums as a guide to the ethics of a sponsor. There is a cost in paying affiliates, but considering how much is blown in other areas, it's easier to believe that high minimums are used mainly to create a bunch of balances which will never be collected. Seeing a high minimum won't automatically put me off, but it definitely earns a black mark.

The worst sposnor for this is AFF. And I'm not bashing them as a program, but I don't see why they can't combined all thier programs into one check. They have over 20 sites with each having 2 or 3 types of promotion. So it's possible to have nealy $2500 in sales with them and not get one penny. With AFF specifically you can promote though PPC, Revshare or PPS. Now why does EACH have to have $50 minimum? It's all the same account. Why send me 3 seperate checks instead of one? Wouldn't that save them money anyways? Probally the biggest reason why I don't promote them much.

I'd rather the minimums from places be lower than $100 - but that's no reason to "single out" AEBN...of course I never have that minimum issue with them specifically...but the places I do have to wait for that minimum, I hate to wait just like the next guy...but when they tell you what the minimums are, you just have to deal with it.

Exactly... The majority of my income is from focused advertising on my sites for key good selling sponsors.. But my sites also have a ton of related text links, banners, galleries, fhgs etc. and all of that dribbles in the money as well. It costs nothing in terms of time to put some text links on a page as potential "extra" sales.
